For the record, I am not only an American but a US citizen. That's what he really means, US citizen. Technically everybody who is a resident of any country in the western hemisphere is American, as the continents are called North America and South America. So-called wetbacks are every bit as American as US citizens are. I just got annoyed by his use of the word and decided to have a sense of humor about it. Evidently he couldn't do the same.
@SW-User I was surprised when I found out from using the Internet how parochial Americans are. I always thought since I was a kid that the USA was a league of nations all brought together in one place and that was what made it more interesting. So where did this parochial attitude come from?
