Have you ever been discriminated against?

Insomniac100 Best Comment
Yep. I was the only Asian kid in a rich white neighborhood and it didn’t help we weren’t rich either. I’d get called “dog eater” and “jap chink” among other things by the time I was 10 and none of the teachers did anything about it and I actually got in trouble for standing up for myself
SW-User
@Insomniac100 im glad you stood up for yourself
Thanks. It took a long ass time to move on from all that as I carried into middle school and a part of high school @SW-User

Yes, I have....and I can’t think of anyone I know who hasn’t been in some way or another.
I have not had the same kind of experiences with discrimination as some, though.

Yes. I have been denied an apartment rental, denied a job, and once thrown out of a party of Swiss people in a foreign country due to my ethnicity. (I would prefer not to reveal my background/ethnicity here).

Considering that I am now in my 70s, and that I have counted only 6 episodes of ethnic prejudice in my life that actually speaks well of the people I've known over the years; less than one episode every 10 years on the average. Not that bad.
SW-User
@greenmountaingal im sorry that happened to you
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@SW-User The worst one was the Swiss party. At one point I actually feared they would hurt me. And I was with a group of rich Swiss young people who were mannerly and prep school and college educated; I did not expect it.

Every day, by the democrat party, simply because I am a citizen of the United States.
Thelonewolf1993 · 26-30, M
I am sure as a black person you have come across rudeness in your life - how do you tell if they are being rude or being rude - and discriminatory BC of your skin color. ?

@greenmountaingal all understood that is history - I think we are talking about in the present
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@MarmeeMarch I think, then or now, people, particularly children, are affected by prejudice even when it's not overt or obvious.
SW-User
Not really, but my mother has.
SW-User
@SW-User im sorry to hear that
Thelonewolf1993 · 26-30, M
Yes I haven't met too many people in my life that haven't been the world and our peers are always going to judge us for something
SW-User
@Thelonewolf1993 very true
Thelonewolf1993 · 26-30, M
@SW-User I learned at a very young age that not everybody in life is going to like you but it doesn't really matter at the end of the day who does and who doesn't we have to do our best to go through this life staying true to ourselves and not let anyway break you people will always find something to nitpick about you it's up to us not to let it faze us
Reject · 26-30, M
Growing up I was, but then again I was the only black kid in a otherwise homogeneous white town.
SW-User
