i don’t think there’s any real benefit, and the only disadvantage, in my opinion, is that if you don’t want to share your picture here you won’t want to get verified.

i see an advantage for the site administrators, though. easy to detect multiple (duplicitous) accounts used for abuse of TOS. of course they say it’s for easier recovery of your account, if you lose your email and password. i don’t really think that’s been a problem for most people

in summary: it’s a dividing line between open and anonymous users. It’s no longer a generally anonymous site

No real benefit

Having seen what they want for verification, I can tell SW to please fuck right off. I'm used to the idea of being the commodity that they're selling, but I'm buggered if I'm going to put my face up for their facial-recognition software to work on. If I lose the account, then screw it, SW isn't important enough to care that much.
