on this site, I never message girls hoping to get sex or to talk about sex, and for many reasons. first, anybody here could be the opposite of their picture, the cute young woman could be an ugly man. also, it would be quite desperate and hopeless to think that a conversation here will lead to sex or a girlfriend, this is probably the least likely place to find a mate. I just like to talk to people and sometimes it is nice to just have a nice talk with someone of the opposite sex.

I actually meant: why straight guys freak out when guys message them. Often saying things like : don't message me, I'm not gay. I was wondering why they would react the way they did if they themselves don't only message women for sex-related reasons.

@Trevo Thanks for clearing things up. I was just about to reply and tell you that most of the guys I've chatted with here were NOT messaging me for sex-related reasons. And it really bothers me when, in response to complaints about the players on this site, some people say, oh come on, you know that all guys are just here for sex chat, and you're naive or stupid to think that any guys actually want genuine friendship. This is very unfair to the decent men who are here for genuine, purely platonic friendship. And even though there are apparently a good number of players here, this doesn't justify their behavior at all. It doesn't make it any less hurtful, or annoying.
But in response to your comment here, I think that if a straight guy freaks out when another guy messages him, he's probably jumping to unfair conclusions. Maybe he has had too many gay guys come on to him and he has become conditioned to expect this. If that's the case, it's unfortunate, but it's also important to remember that there are decent people here who aren't just here for sex chat.
