Is it possible that some animals are self-aware and think about their ability to think?

No. They’re aware of pain and such, but I read where animals just know how to respond to their environment and of course, other people/animals. They don’t reason things out about themselves, but I’m not so sure about that, in that they sure know what you mean when you tell them how pretty they are. Those type animals thrive more, or else they’re just responding to love and affection. In any case, animals should absolutely never be hit or abused in any way. Especially chained outside with no water/food or boxed in a tiny cage in the hot sun or without a cool shelter, for days or weeks. Or just chained outside for hours or days with not enough chain to get out of the harsh weather, whatever it may be. If people cannot handle the responsibility of taking care of an animal of any kind, they don’t need to have one. If you see an animal abused, I hope you’ll report it ASAP. A person should not yell at their animal either.

I think it could be possible but most people want to tell themselves otherwise so they dont feel bad when animals are treated like shit.

Difficult...I think we need some definitions first
