it's possible, but don't expect any raises/promotions, or to be able to change the world in any appreciable way. there's a glass ceiling for decent politicians, and the punishment can be severe, if one decides to try to break it.

Yes it's possible, for example there are decent people working for social reasons (like human rights) and they're often involved into politician things. The fact is a true politician should be a good person but capitalism made a mess of everything...
