Which SW members belong to the “coastal elite”?

coastal elite
noun [ C, + sing/pl verb ] UK  /ˌkəʊ.stəl eˈliːt/ /ˌkoʊ.stəl iˈliːt/

the group of educated, professional people living mainly in cities on the western or northeastern coasts of the US who have liberal political views and are often considered to have advantages that most ordinary Americans do not have:
Not me. I live in a southern swamp and eat mud bugs on occasion.

I would not look at being a coastal elite or being a clinger of guns and bibles a “charge”. Both can be looked at positively and negatively. . @MistyCee
@jackjjackson Whew. That's a relief, because there's a Bible or three in my house, and I don't think I could find them quickly enough to avoid prosecution on that charge either.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Seriously. What is this world coming to anyways? @MistyCee

The coastal elite are the ones ruining our country. They're educated and they're liberals, and that's what sets them apart from ordinary Americans like you and me.
USAalltheway · 31-35, M
@jackjjackson You're just saying that because you're a liberal.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Check in with the liberals on the site, they will tell you otherwise 😲 @USAalltheway
USAalltheway · 31-35, M
@jackjjackson Because liberals always lie.

I'm going to guess brains.

Great answer. I grudgingly fall into that category myself. @Northwest

The term is a bit of an oxymoron IMHO. I’ve lived in the coastal Northeast for most of my life, attended Ivy League schools and live quite comfortably. None of that was handed to me. I worked my ass off to make it happen as did most of my colleagues. Moreover, most of my friends who have made a success out of their lives are Repulicans. They might have been Democrats at some earlier time but all voted for Trump because they didn’t work their butts off for years in order to have their financial security taken away from them.

@Sweet517 A lot of people, work their asses off, but don't get the same opportunities. Plenty of reasons why that is, but have nothing to do with their work ethic, study habits or how honest they are and how well they apply themselves.

A kid, attending elementary school in Yakima, who works her ass off, to be top of her class, by the time she's done with High School, is not going to have an opportunity to take the AP classes, advanced Calculus, Physics, biology, languages, etc. to qualify for the Computer Science program at the U. of Washington.

Perhaps, in the not so distant future, technology may make it possible to level the playing field, through best of breed online education, but we're not there yet.
Sweet517 · 51-55, F
Then that’s on the parents of Yakima to get more proactive. Mores ver, you don’t need AP classes to be successful. Once you get to College they retract half of Senior year anyway
Northwest · M
@Sweet517 Hmmm. On the parents? Yes, I guess they should have bought a $3M home in Mercer Island, and sent the kid to the MI Elementary, Middle and High School.

You don't need AP classes to be successful, but you need them to get into the U. of Washington. Yes, the getting admitted to a good program in a good college is the issue.

Eugene Robinson has an excellent article about this very subject today. - signed “elite” who lives on a coast of Wisconsin.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Sure. They are just atypical coastal elites. Technically I qualify as one too. However my politics may not be left enough. @luckranger71
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@jackjjackson Not atypical at all. This whole construct is just another way to divide us. “I’m more American than you are based on where and how I live” As the British would say: bollocks!
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
✅. Stinkin media!! @luckranger71
No, I'm far better than that

No but Quora is cool
