Can being honest ever get you in trouble ?

NoYou · 26-30, M Best Comment
Yea unfortunately but it’s still the right thing to do.. which is ofcourse subjective
@NoYou that’s true. 🤷🏽‍♀️

If you cheated on your wife, and she had no idea, being honest could get you in a lot of trouble, so yes. People should always be honest, of course - if honesty gets them into trouble it will only be because they said or did something wrong (in the eyes of that person) in the first place.

@SW-User Good luck with your mother. If you think she is being unfair perhaps talking it through (calmly) with her would help. Is this happening because your mother doesn't believe what you tell her, or is it that she does believe you but thinks it was wrong anyway (even if you don't think it was wrong). If it's because she doesn't believe you that's a tough one to get around and maybe you need someone else to back you up and confirm that you are being truthful. If she believes what you say but thinks it was wrong then it sounds as though you both need to revisit and understand the boundaries better. I don't know your exact circumstances but while you are reliant on your mother, and especially if you are a minor, she will have the right to set reasonable boundaries.

@fazer1k I’m not a minor lol.. gonna be 20 in a few weeks but as long as I’m in college I am still dependent on my parents. And it’s ‘cause she doesn’t believe me
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@SW-User I didn't think you were a minor - just considering the possibility as not everyone is truthful about their age.

I feel for you there - kind of insulting not to be believed, especially by your own mother. You ought to be able to do pretty much whatever you like at 20, I would have thought! Good luck, anyway. 🙂
Ohhhh can it ever
@Teggy 🤔

Definitely! Answering truthfully when your wife asks "does this make me look fat" can get you in a LOT of trouble.
@MasterDvdC like what? No sex?🤔
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M
@Stark If you have to ask that you've never been married.
@MasterDvdC duh, as to why I’m asking you. I’m also not a guy, so the effects that would have on me would be different lol.

I remember getting called a “back biter” because I told a cousin of mine what annoyed me about her. She asked for the truth but once she got it she called a back biter which is childish to say the very least lol.
@NickiHijab you guys have the strangest insults btw.
NickiHijab · F
@Stark exactly. If you ask, ye shall receive. It’s not exactly hard to fathom.

The insult doesn’t even make sense tho. Back biter means to talk slanderously of someone who isn’t present. She was right in front of my face.. I couldn’t have been more direct even if I tried.
@NickiHijab 😂😂😂
SW-User
Yup, sometimes it's better to play dumb or just keep quiet.
Straylight · 31-35, F
People hate the truth.
@Straylight unless it’s in their favor.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Of course. It can even put you in legal jeopardy. You can be convicted of perjury if you tell the truth but someone else lies and the judge believes the liar.
@hippyjoe1955 🤷🏽‍♀️ Either way, I’d stand my ground. I know people are falsely accused many times but I wouldn’t lie not to say I don’t ever lie but in a legal/law situation I wouldn’t.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Stark Did you even read what I wrote? Are you capable of reading? Is your comprehension above that of an average 5 year old? Where did I ever suggest anyone should lie?
@hippyjoe1955 nope, so it’s pointless continuing to argue.
Dusty101 · F
Yes... I lost two friends from it. I was loyal to them and they chose to isolate me. I haven't seen them in a year. It hurt alot. But now I'm just plodding along. 😑
@Dusty101 🙃 they clearly weren’t friends.
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
in certain cases.. but overall it can resolve an issue.

sometimes.

possibly.

if the truth hurts someone else
@SW-User the truth 99% of the time hurts someone else.
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
The world at large prefers lies and hates truth.
NickiHijab · F
If people can’t take it sure. I remember getting called a “back biter” because I told a cousin of mine what annoyed me about her. She asked for the truth but once she got it she called a back biter which is childish to say the very least lol.
SW-User
Yes, especially if you volunteer to be honest where keeping your mouth shut would be a better option for both.
@SW-User well I think that’s just being an asshole and using honesty as an excuse or way to justify being an asshole.
SW-User
@Stark Yes for sure, it's being honest but honesty should be used in the right way and if not, then it makes you an asshole as you said.
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M

Gets me in trouble all the time.
Graciebaby · F
@Stark people don't like the truth.
Try it some time.
@Graciebaby I try it all the time but I don’t think it ever gets me in trouble.
Graciebaby · F
Yeah, yourve never had a wife and had to endure her constant reiteration of a point you said 3 weeks ago in truth that you should have lied through your back teeth for a lil peace.

You will learn.

Let's just say I'm happy people can't read my thoughts. 😇

Every single day.
SW-User
It does with my parents
Ha ! It gets people in trouble all the time, alas. Why it’s easier for many people to lie. 😏
@bijouxbroussard I think people just take the easier route to make peace 🙊
