do you believe in forgives or revenge? ♥️

Quakertrucker · 70-79, M
I never believe in revenge.

I definitely believe in forgiveness. It had more benefits to the victim than to the perpetrator.

Several years ago, a man broke into an Amish school in Pennsylvania and killed the teacher and several children and then himself. He was not Amish.

The local Amish - even while mourning their dead children - raised money to help the wife and children of the murderer, since they no longer had a father or husband to support them.

That is the epitome of grace and forgiveness. How would revenge have possibly comforted the Amish parents of the slain children?

@Quakertrucker what the Amish did spoke volumes of their heart, them hurting his wife & kids is not revenge at all however... not in my book Atleast ... that would have been “an eye for an eye” scenario

And, of course, the problem with "an eye for an eye" is that soon we are all blind.

Besides, if one believes in the Bible, in the New Testament, Jesus says "You have been told an eye for an eye, but I say unto you, Do Unti Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You."

That "But I Say" negates the "Eye for an Eye" scenario.

The Amish went even further than not hurting the wife and children of the man that murdered their children; they took active steps to help them.

I am Quaker, and wish that I had the faith and love of that Amish community.

I hope your life is filled with joy now rather than with hatred and revenge.

The old cliche is "Forgive and Forget".

That is idiocy in several ways.

First, if you could forget, you are not truly able to forgive.

Second, if you forget, you are not able to protect yourself by keeping out of the same situation in the future.

Forgetting has no positive value for you or for the person that wronged you!

Revenge is a life well lived, which requires letting it go

@Fluffy407

I would say that revenge is a life best not lived!

Forgiveness. Revenge only hurts me.

Soo true, but some people should get a taste of their own medicine

In the VERY short term, maybe; but not for a lifetime!

Revenge is way more fun ... but, I never have time for it

Same

Easier to forgive
Lolco · 36-40, M
Yes, much easier to just get stepped on & let it be
Quakertrucker · 70-79, M
@Lolco

No, actually, in the short term forgiveness can be very hard; but, in the long term, it is easier than maintaining an angry, damaged heart.

Don't forget what happened; remember it well so that you can avoid situations where you can get stepped on!

Forgive and let it go
Lolco · 36-40, M
@StokedFox this is best
Quakertrucker · 70-79, M
@StokedFox

Definitely, forgive and let it go, but don't forget. One, if you forget, you really aren't forgiving, and, two, remembering can keep you from being hurt again in the future.

Revenge is for the weak in spirit; forgiveness is for the strong.

Make a choice: are you weak or strong?

Quakertrucker

@Quakertrucker no matter how many times they hurt you!?
Quakertrucker · 70-79, M
@Lolco

No matter how many times they hurt you, yes!

But, play it smart and don't keep putting yourself in the same situation where they are able to hurt you.

Forgiving is not the same as forgetting. The old cliche is forgive and forget. That is idiocy because you can not forget, and if you could forget, you would have no need or ability to forgive.
