Why can't people colonised Antarctica like Alaska

Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
I think a lot of it has to do with the weather. The screaming sixties. There is nothing to slow down the winds down there so the waves are very tall. There is no way to raise food in Antarctica due to the cold and high latitude. Water only comes from melted ice and snow. Takes a lot of energy.
because it it under the watch of 12 countries and has a treaty that prevents colonization and bans any military action. theres usually about 4000 people living there at a time though, mostly scientists
Antarctica has the coldest climate on the Earth. Antarctica's lowest air temperature record was set on 21 July 1983, with −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F)

Compared to Mars it's a tropical paradise.
