Do you ever root for the bad guy in the movie?

Serenitree · F
Who is the bad guy, in which movie. In Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, they were the bad guys, but you were definitely meant to root for them. Same with the AppleDumpling Gang.

Depends on the movie. I rooted for Bill the butcher in Gangs of New York, I liked him MUCH more than Leo's character.

-Public Enemies, Johnny Depp as John Dillinger
-Lawless, Tom Hardy as Forrest Bondurant (one of my favourite movies)
-Pain & Gain, both Dwayne Johnson's character and Mark Wahlberg's character

Nope, I usually wanna kill them to save the good guys, my personality seems to be that of a hero

I'd like to see Tom Cruise killed more often.

Sometimes the villain is dang hot.

It depends on who you form a connection with first. There's a tactic where the one who gets the most screen-time is the one who you will side with. Some directors missed this incredibly important part to movie-making, and therefore accidentally made the bad guy into the one you root for. Then of course there are the ones who do it on purpose, but you'll notice if it is on purpose.

So yes

@MartinTheFirst A good example of someone who did it right and on purpose was the one who directed Death Note, you're forced to love the murderous arrogant character because it's all about him. Then of course you can have a exotic little crush on the good guy who is shown a 3rd of the time, but that's not as long lasting.

Not unless I don’t consider them the bad guy.
