What does it feel like to have a loving, caring dad?

I didn't appreciate my Dad until I was an adult. As a child, he was always working, so he could provide a good life when we were kids. He became loving when I stopped being rebellious, around 20. He was actually my best friend, and confidant. He would listen to my frustration, and encourage me to keep going. He's been gone for 6 years, but I still hear him encourage me sometimes.

but taking care of him when he was dying ,I am glad I got the time with him to know I was an arrogant self centered jerk who had no idea all my Dad had been through for his family ,
The real reality was when I had my own family
I sucked so bad my kids were not with me 12 yrs ,,they grew up with step dads that treated them bad and abused them ,,
So turns out I had a great Dad
Now my kids say the same thing ,,but I bet it was not always the answer they would have gave you
Prior to having their own kids and seeing how great they were at it too
I bet they said they never had a Dad too
I was here when it counted ,they sucked for as while s teens too LOL
but now I think my Dad was one of the greatest men that ever lived
I am blessed ,now my kids say the same thing about me too

When I was in counseling with one of the leaders of my faith and I told him about the abuse I suffered from my father he told me to consider God the Father as my Father. Loved and cared for since.

Neither will I. I know how it feels to have a disrespectful, asshole of a father that likes to talk down on me and laugh at me though

My dad was always loving and caring, but distant, drunk, and unable to show it. So I didn't really know the difference.
