Considering the rate of divorce, should a mandatory class in marriage be required by the government?

Zer0Point · 31-35, F
No, learning to love another has nothing to do with the government
@Zer0Point Valid, but committment doesn't seem to be there.

@JustLikeGreta Cannot force commitment
@SW-User true. Was just thinking how few marriages do last these days.

I am very leery of the government mandating anything. Who would teach the classes and what would be the contents. As abysmal as the divorce rate is, I can't see how the government teaching classes will help.
@bowman81 I was not advocating it.. Wondering how to help those who enter marriage.. And really never totally committing to it.

The thing about marriage is most fail because people "love" too easily, run your marriage like a business and it stays together.
@Jackaloftheazuresand How does one run a marriage like a business?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Don't hire someone that can't do the work, we want the skilled person to fill the position and not just a friendly one. Hard lines, this isn't negotiable territory, expectations should be set in stone. Trust that you can be replaced.
@Jackaloftheazuresand Interesting concepts. 🤔

Your parents should be the mandatory “course.” It is where you learn how a relationship works.

In my mind... you should be required to prove that you have truly bonded before marriage.

Maybe a test like The Amazing Race.
A class on divorce and what happens in family court should be mandatory yes. Especially in countries where the court is so "fair" that it's illegal to post the results online like mine.

They should just abolish that bullshit altogether.
SW-User
@JustLikeGreta Yeah.
I mean while we're at it let's abolish the government too. Could be fun.
@SW-User You mean anarchy rules? hmmm, not ready for that.

@JustLikeGreta Just for a week! Come on!

What does the government know about relationships?
sciguy18 · M
I know it was just a general question. Simply my ineffective attempt at humor...
not saying its right or wrong... just an idea.
@sciguy18 lol, difficult to get humor in this venue... 😄

Nope , the government has no business intruding into private lives . Churches offer that service to their members .
Friend · 22-25
who would pay for that
@Friend The couple would pay for it. Might save time later spent on lawyers.
Friend · 22-25
@JustLikeGreta i don’t think they would help.

divorces only usually happen when there just isn’t any other option anymore.

maybe there should just be a higher age limit on when you can get married.

I think alot of people get married really young and then they change when they get older
@Friend Older age would certainly be a good idea.

Mandatory class in pre-nups.

@SW-User True.

The government cannot even take care of itself and I believe it has no business in our private lives.
