Are British people actually polite?

My impression and observance when I visit - England, at least - is that thereare many who still maintain the decencies of social etiquette....

They didn't establish an empire through politeness.

In my experience not really.

yes, they are all assigned the duty to be polite by British law. all who do not comply are thrown into a dungeon on first offense.

but seriously, people are people; they run the gamut, like any other nation of people.
