I think that in certain situations, it's extremely necessary. For example -- if you watch Intervention/have been addicted to drugs -- if someone has to cut you out of their lives because you're causing that much trouble for them financially and emotionally because you're hurting them and you won't stop hurting yourself, I think that's a good example.

I did it with my son for 1 1/2 yr, it worked. I basically stepped out of his life.
