Murder judgements....

I give you life in prison plus 14 years or two 99 year prison terms......why is it set up this way? Life plus 14 years if it’s life how in the hell can you serve the other 14 years? Imprisoned coffins?

Plus 14 years seems odd, but multiple life sentences is typically a "fail safe".
Suppose, for example, that a defendant is on trial for two murders. The jury convicts him of both, and the judge sentences him to consecutive life sentences. He appeals the convictions and a court overturns one because the prosecution didn’t comply with its discovery obligations. That takes one life sentence off the books—at least until the defendant can be retried. But the other life sentence remains in effect.
99 year prison terms? Never heard of that before. Here its 25 years. and they can let them out earlier if they prove they not a threat to society. And I think they used to bury inmates in the prison cemetery if they needed to. Standing up of course so they couldn't rest in the after life.

To my knowledge that's for each charge they have. So if they prove they're innocent by appealing if the charge for life, they still have to serve 14 years for the other charge, etc. I could be wrong.

its just on paper different years for combined crimes like life for murder then maybe 14 for robbery i would think

@SW-User That's probably it.
