Will human nature most likely be different as we colonize other planets?

As the probability of space travel becomes more and more likely, what is the probability that human nature will change as we become an interplanetary species? Or, will we simply take our hard-coded ways with us?

Yes, that's true, on this planet. But, don't you think human nature will be compelled to change when we are no longer earth-bound? I mean, there could be an opportunity to create a new culture. Are you certain we will opt to stick with how we are and exclusively what we know? I guess, what I am getting out, wouldn't that be the perfect opportunity to change what don't currently like about our human nature selves?

I believe you... but it kind of takes me breath away. I guess I was thinking something as monumental as a change of planets would tend to suggest human nature would HAVE to change. But, maybe human nature isn't influenced by our planet, the continents, or any other cultural distraction. Now, you have me thinking, those "other" things (all other things) are influenced by our human nature.

The 2 constants have been, human nature and our planet... what if we turn one of the constants (our planetary origin) into a variable. Everyone seems to be saying human nature is locked and loaded no matter what planet we are on. I don't know whether that speaks volumes about the spirit of our human nature or the fact that we are doomed to be defined by our nature no matter what the circumstances are.

Well, sign me up then. I am going to start trusting what I know is right instead of falling into that trap of wanting what I think everyone has before I even consider if I need it. I do think I have been living a much too impressionable life - and that's sad. I can't change what I have done in the past, but I can stop it now. I want these shackles off me!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Yeah, but Hermit... you can't mean that. I mean... do you realize what you are suggesting... that what we do is simply a by-product of being manipulated by a group that has somehow figured out how to keep us all distracted with little mindgames they have created? What qualifies as genuine human nature then?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I feel like I need to do this. I want to do it, actually. I know it sounds weird... but I kind of feel this is a sign. Letting go is the most frightening thing about this, for me. I don't know why, perhaps loss of control. Perhaps, it's the way I've been manipulated.

We are influenced by environment and culture but there is an underlying core to humanity that remains constant of course there are variants but most of humanity's nature will remain the same until an evolutionary change takes place.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Yeah but... how did these corrupt entities figure all this out? Are you suggesting none of us have free will or the wherewithal to control our own behaviour? Don't I get to choose or not choose to play any or all of the mindgames? This is quite intriguing to me...
DrizztMajere · 41-45, M
No, humanity will still fuck things up. It might change if we go ahead and mess with our genes and change what we are hardwired to be, but unless something drastic like that happens we'll just take our crap with us to space.

:-) I feel happy for the first time in awhile instead of sad. Like a turning point... I don't want to make it seem like everything is changed... but, I don't think I need to be so sad anymore... I mean maybe...

Human nature may not change just as @Hermit said. By the time we colonize other planets it may have a new coat of paint.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
To start, I guess specifically our seemingly endless desire to:

1. Categorize, stereotype, and separate ourselves into "power and priority" groups: racial, gender, age, etc.
2. Glorify rules and authority over letting individuals decide what is best for themselves.
3. Rationalize death and destruction through warfare as inevitable.
4. Sensationalize celebrities.
5. Create rigid expectations of what and who is socially acceptable, casting out all others who don't "fit."

Do you think this could become a movement? Or is this best left as a solo mission for each individual to take on for himself/herself.

i think from generation to generation human nature is changing if i see in respect of earth. we are not same like our ancestors and our coming generation will be more forward than us. If i see the project of elon musk where he want to build a community on mars , its not that surprising becauase we humans adapt ourselves to situations thats why we came so far as species.

Mark those changes will probably take a million years if they do.

Hopefully we lose religion.

Wow... it's interesting we both defined this condition as slavery. I am having a hard time accepting this. I mean who determined we were going to be slaves and "they" were going to be the slavemasters? How can we file an appeal?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
But, shackles suggest we are not much more than slaves and within our slavery we can seek to find some dusty bits of salvation. Aren't we entitled to more than that?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
That's true, I guess... I do want things I didn't even realize I wanted and when I stop to think about it, I don't really need, but...
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Well, can we fight them? I'm serious... you have the wit and from my gym workouts I have "some" muscle...
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Oh, we will still be around. Believe me...

If we are all still around.
