If you were invited to dinner would you bring a drink or dessert?

Or say you were invited for a movie night or something else...
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
I wouldn't bring anything unless they outright asked me to 😏
Peppa · 31-35, F
@NorthernRoses I find that to be very strange because my parents are known for their friendship with people from different cultures and it's still customary to bring something along. Like our Greek friends introduced us to oozo, our Indian friends brought us some flowers, mums best friend is Turkish she would always bring us baklava and dessert wine.
Our Irish friends made Guinness cake... and whenever we'd go to dinner we'd always take a punch we make or my grandmother's biscuit wine.
This is something my friends do and it's not something we have to ask usually they offer " do you need me to bring anything", if you say no they still insist on buying a wine.
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@Peppa Well, it's not like that here. You're not encouraged to bring stuff when invited to dinner.
Peppa · 31-35, F
@NorthernRoses OK well I will no to turn up empty handed in Norway...
firefall · 61-69, M
Something, certainly. Nowadays, usually drink, or maybe snacks for a movie night
Adam77 · 26-30, M
Nothing. I only go to eat xD
Isn’t that why we are invited?!
Peppa · 31-35, F
@Adam77 you read all the responses here and that will give you an insight into customary etiquette
Adam77 · 26-30, M
@Peppa sorry I no have thi time
Peppa · 31-35, F
@Adam77 well you asked to be enlightened
BondGirl84 · 36-40, F
if for dinner then i'd bring wine but if movie night i'd bring both wine & dessert
Adam77 · 26-30, M
@BondGirl84 what is the importance of wine?
BondGirl84 · 36-40, F
@Adam77 its just a standard for dinner, not often u drink a gin & tonic or any other drink with a meal, esp if its a dinner party
PlumBerries · 31-35, F
[c=#7700B2]whenever stuff like that has happened with my friends.. we all just chip in on pizza, drinks and whatever else is needed for a good night[/c]
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
I usually ask what I can bring with otherwise I inevitably bring the wrong thing
Peppa · 31-35, F
@Wraithorn yes that seems like a sensible idea. I have ended up bringing dessert and there was too many
I usually bring something homemade. :) Usually biscuits or a cake. 😂
Peppa · 31-35, F
@lauriethecolourful this is always welcomed :)
@Peppa I get that a lot. Hahaha :)
Austrans · 31-35, T
Always a drink, but I have brought both.
Peppa · 31-35, F
@Austrans wine? Or a soft drink?
Austrans · 31-35, T
@Peppa Always wine, never soft drink, plus I like to give the host a bottle of their favorite drink too
Honeylove · 46-50, F
I'd ask the host what he or she preferred I do so they can have a variety of food or drink.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
I bring drinks and a cooler of ice ,
but I am always asked to just bring me and my guitar
If I will play they will feed me ,,,LOL
So I have to play for my supper is that it ?
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Peppa OH ,,you are inviting me to dinner ?
Then I would bring wine (though I don't drink anymore )
Guitar is always in the car or truck
People I know invite me to cookout because they really want me to play ,
its kind of a normal thing ,,
and its not a serenaded ,its a show ,but lots of fun
Peppa · 31-35, F
@rckt148 haha awe it was all hypothetical...
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Peppa See how people are ,get your hopes all up to dash you on the rocks ,
I'll survive me and my bottle on imaginary wine ,
and I imagined an outstanding year too LOL
you have a good one
I often take dessert, or flowers
@Peppa with custard 🤤
Peppa · 31-35, F
@InOtterWords especially with custard yummy
@Peppa yum
Generally, I'll bring a bottle of wine or Martinelli's, if it's dinner. The other settings would be different.
Peppa · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard thanks for responding,I'm noticing a trend here under 25 seem to not know about doing this and are quite happy to show up empty handed.
