How do I get my dog cerfied as a service dog

Pandabutter · 36-40, M
If you're getting him as a companion, check with your doctor to write a letter proving you have a problem with whatever it is, and the dog makes your life better. Do not use the websites that you pay for a certification, they're a bunch of spam and not legal.

I believe St. John ambulance does that in Canada. In the US, there is a site usatherapydogs.org that outlines some things, plus the AKC has a page with a long list of organisations that handle this ...

I've thought of doing this with my shelties also. Good luck.

That depends on what sort of service dog you want him to be. A seeing eye dog obviously takes a lot of training, but something like an emotional support dog would probably just need proof that he's a calming influence upon you.

@SW-User I want him for emotional support only

@Vgore0304 OK. Well, I imagine that you'd have to prove that he gives you emotional support. The agency ho registers dogs for such things should have a website, and that ought to tell you what specifically you need to do to meet their requirements.

Talk to your doctor some of them will sign off on an emotional support dog

You give up your dog to trained professionals
Vgore0304 · 26-30, F
@MikefromEP not for emotional support no training is required
