No not really. Preference is formed by advertising for example. Obviously at a system level we are talking more than a 30 second tv slot. Rather the preference for Capitalism is formed across the board by what is called Cultural Hegemony. For a choice alternative ways of organising society would need to be advocated for and considered.
That said there is a widespread dissatisfaction for current system outcomes which while not having a solution is questioning Capitalism. This subject is covered by Political Science I guess.

@sogdianrock of course there's a solution which they have already been well aware for a long time now but it involves those up the top to give away some of what they already have and us capitalists are more than understanding that sharing doesn't make you rich

hi JovialPlutonian
I am sure that there are many solutions but only if you first accept that there is a problem.
Capitalism is a most dynamic system - look what a taste of it has done in China recently! It is argued that there is no problem and resources and rewards are most efficiently allocated through the capitalist model.
Meanwhile the planet is being consumed and is being poisoned. Being rich is far more fun than being poor and in the Capitalist model more are poor but they have the vote. Obviously Capitalism will at least have to pay enough taxes to assuage enough voters to continue. Sharing may not make Capitalists rich but does make it possible to get as rich as they do. Poor people may do better in a different system altogether but then we are back to cultural hegemony making sure ideas of alternatives are rubbished.
Political science sure is interesting hey.
