Why people pronounced Hungary as Hungry?

As someone who is part Hungarian it's kind of annoying. Also I think you're question was perfect timing because I was just watching a video some relatives from Hungary sent me.

We don't. We pronounce a short "a" in the middle of "Hungary", but not in "hungry".

Because that's the way it is pronounced. I know, English is weird.
