What could this have been?

About 10 years ago my friend and I were sitting on the porch talking. I live out in the country, but it's not far from town. There is a field with a tree line making a half circle in front of the house. To our right we could hear tree branches bashing real loud. It couldn't have been cows walking around stepping on sticks or walking into branches, because it sounded like huge branches just breaking off trees. It kept doing it over and over. There were no people, no lights, everything looked normal over there the next day
