How would you handle someone "Lying by omission"? Do you think it's as bad as an outright lie?

bijouxbroussard · F Best Comment
It does depend on their motives. If they were sincerely trying to spare my feelings I might be more willing to forgive than if it were just an attempt to deceive.

@bijouxbroussard I agree, but I don't think in this case it was to save my feelings. Sad, but that's life.
@Zoranna I'm so sorry, my friend. 😞
Zoranna · F
@bijouxbroussard Thanks Bijoux, I appreciate that. ❤

Liars will lie, but lying by omission shouts 'I am weak AF and prefer to avoid any confrontation'. It's so frustrating. Any lying insinuates the liar doesn't trust you with their truth, which is a very uncomfortable reality to accept.

All down to the degree I suppose.
I mean if you said you went to med. school but dropped out before you finished, can't call yourself a 'retired doctor'!
'Served in the armed forces' - kicked out of 'basic'. Hardly the same thing as what they're saying is it ?
Zoranna · F
@Picklebobble2 Totally agree.

It can be as bad. It depends on what they omitted. If it's something like they didn't actually finish college it's not that bad. If it's I was really in prison for the last 5 years it's a deal breaker

I think it depends on what was omitted and their motivation for omitting it, and as importantly, the effect it has on you.

@Zoranna Yay! You're an Aussie too! :)
Zoranna · F
@OzDiver Yep, haha

@Zoranna 😁

I think it depends upon the reason. Was the omission to avoid hurting the listener's feelings, which might be excusable, or was the omitter trying to save his own skin, which would be equivalent to a lie?
Zoranna · F
@JakeTheSnake The latter. :-(

@Zoranna sorry

I usually let it slide but take note that they're like that. It depends on the situation. I don't think it's as bad as an actual lie. It's still deception. It's a moment of a person not being trustworthy.

All too big and confusing, depends on the circumstances the lie itself etc. If you are saving someone's pain by the omission then actually that is fully acceptable in some cases
SW-User
Yea both really sucks I don't no if I could pick one as being worst both are horrible
Zoranna · F
@SW-User I think so too, particularly if the purpose is to deceive.

Yup deftinley @Zoranna

Oh the tangled web we wave when first we try to deceive ... that about sums up lying for me 🤔
I'd give omission ...secound chance 👍
Most definitely. People only do shit when it's convenient for themselves, and that isn't fair.

Depends on why
Zoranna · F
@SW-User I agree, motive is definitely the key.

@Zoranna Good to see you btw :)

@SW-User Thank you, nice to see you too. :-)
