What is the strangest pet you've ever owned that most people never have?

Serenitree · F
We once had a Squirrel Monkey.

I kept an injured garter snake for a few days. It looked as if it had been cut on its side, was oozing something sticky and red to dark brown. My daughter found it, brought it home and asked me to help it. I did. I washed it, put Polysporin on it and bandaged it. A few days of clean dressings and he was no longer bleeding. I imagine there would have been no scar after he shed his skin again, but I don't know as we let him go after he was okay.

I guess he wasn't really a pet, and I know lots of people keep snakes as pets, but the reason I mention it, is because I'm actually very freaked out by the feel of snake muscle moving in my hand. It was hard for me not to gag while doing it, but my daughter was relying on mommy being a loving, compassionate person. *shrugs* What else could I do?

@Serenitree here on Long Island in New York we have a ton of them sadly I haven't seen a lot of them lately but I used to have them as pets all the time
RumorHasIt · F
I had a pet duck that I won at a church preschool when I was like 4 yrs old.. I don't even remember how I won it but my parents were like wtf?? Why are you sending a duck home with my 4 yr old?
RumorHasIt · F
lol.. the preschool was in a southern Baptist church so that makes a little more sense.
Jibby · 56-60, C
Ha.. Southern Baptist Church I get a poison ivy like rash just saying it
RumorHasIt · F
They scared the crap out of me the few times I went to one.. all that fire and brimstone stuff 😳
I had a Nile Monitor and several iguanas. I love reptiles-lizards. And I had a snail many years ago and a wild catfish I raised from a tiny size. And two chipmunks.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@PoetryNEmotion two of those things do not belong in the group above. In fact they look like they would be more on the food list. I hope that's not what happened to Chip and Dale
@Jibby Ha. The catfish I raised until it wouldn't fit in a bowl anymore. Then I set it free. Chip and Dale went back to the wild soon as they were old enough. I had animals from a young age. My mom taught me to love them.
TheProphet · M
I bought my wife a Siberian Tiger cub for her 30th birthday.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@TheProphet I'll bet you the live animals didn't forget how to die
TheProphet · M
@Jibby No they didn't. Calves and goats. Couldn't find any small children for him to snack on.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@TheProphet I would have just let him in a window at a preschool and picked him up later

I have a tortoise if that counts. I also had a bat for a short time because it flew into our kitchen and got hurt or something. It couldn't fly away so I kept it for a while until it was fit enough to go back to it's nest or whatever.
trista2 · 51-55, F
I had a ferret for a while.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@trista2 I'll eventually have them in my photos. I have a couple of pictures of the black one who's always in the same position. And the little guy on a leash. He's actually not so little anymore but we always refer to him as the kitten
trista2 · 51-55, F
@Jibby I look forward to the pics!
Jibby · 56-60, C
@trista2 you got it. I'll give you a holla

it's like the easiest tarantula to take care of though, so not uncommon among people that have a tarantula.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@SW-User he is beautiful what species of tarantula is he? Also I hope you don't feed him mice or anything like that
SW-User
@Jibby a mexican red knee :) i wasn't comfortable giving him mice, he mostly ate crickets.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@SW-User yeah I can't stand the thought of people giving tarantulas mice. It just says something about that kind of character that I don't want anything to do with
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
I knew someone who owned a chicken.

Not exactly strange no, but I always felt awkward around it xD
Jibby · 56-60, C
@Fangirlsarah1996 well I've heard of people doing strange things with chickens so close enough
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Jibby Well no, I felt awkward because I didn't like getting to know something that I'd happily see as food. :/
Jibby · 56-60, C
@Fangirlsarah1996 I know you just can't look the little
S.O.Bs in the eye
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
At one time I had a pet cockroach….he was beautiful, red and gold.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@DragonFruit fun fact cockroaches spend most of the day grooming themselves. And most species of cockroaches don't go near humans because we are probably too dirty for them
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@Jibby Ours just hung out by the stereo most of the time….and it was very clean. This is the closest image I could find to what he looked like.

@DragonFruit yeah one big cockroach or even a couple don't bother me. I think they're cute the way they scurry about and they're almost comical when they try to hide from you .. I lived in Japan for a year-and-a-half in the service so you see enough of them to get desensitized. But I've never had them in my house and I don't think I would ever want that you know unintentionally
StevenIzzi · 51-55, M
I had a pet rock...He could not do any tricks.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@StevenIzzi but they save you fortune in vet bills ! 😜
StevenIzzi · 51-55, M
Jibby · 56-60, C
@StevenIzzi the c*cks*cker that came up with that idea made 15 million. I had to give my pet rock up for adoption to a new owner. I threw it through his front window
summersong · F
Tarantulas, rats, corn snake, savannah monitor.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@summersong I had a white rat when I was a kid. He was really smart
summersong · F
@Jibby they're so smart and sweet.
Jibby · 56-60, C
Yeah he used to sniffle near my ear and then walk around on my head. My grandmother who lived with us detested him. But I had an agreement if she ever harmed him I would harm her

Jibby · 56-60, C

SW-User
A goat, but it's not really uncommon.
Jibby · 56-60, C
@SW-User have you ever seen those screaming goats? I seen a video on YouTube I was hysterical also slightly creeped out
SW-User
@Jibby Yes I have.
Jibby · 56-60, C
I had a white rat at one time when I was young. A lot of people found him creepy. Which was sad because he was one smart little bastard
Tobasco · 31-35, F

Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
