Well a soul mate is just whoever is sharing your experience with you at the time really, or somebody who teaches us something valuable about ourselves. It can even be someone you're completely repelled by. I think once you learn to no longer long for that connection, it'll find you.

I think what we want is a soul that appreciates and encourages the complete person we are and not a soulmate that completes us. I know that is what I want
