Wow some interesting comments. What I would like to hear is some truth about climate change... all we ever hear is the world is going to end, and no facts to back it up. Climate is always changing. I have researched a little, and found some interesting info in the Farmers Almanac. Dating back to before we even had cars, we had more fires, more drought, more flooding, etc. Based on weather history, the next major climate change is colder weather. The reason we see more disasters is because population has moved into areas that were effected by those events, and more publicized.
I'm not saying the world can't do better fighting pollution, but the US is the cleanest country in the world, and continues to do better consistently without drastic economic destruction. I suggest looking at counties that are the highest polluters, and making them improve their ways (preferably with their own GDP). Before you go making a stand based on believing anything someone tells you (like the two above) look it up for yourself.

@ddlknaz Yes, look it up. But in actual, peer-reviewed scientific journals, not The Old Farmer's Almanac...

The current climate change is a dramatic shift. Look up the Antarctic ice core evidence.

Or how about the studies of coral cores? That was even on PBS like a decade or more ago.

How about the loss not only of ice, but of the CO2 stored in deep, cold waters?

Yes, you need to look this up...

@SomeMichGuy You will also see that shift you mention is moving from the poles into Canada in colder temps. My point is climate is always changing, and there is no doubt pollution can cause it to a point. However, is no amount of green new deal or fear-mongering is going to fix it anytime soon. And there is no denying that countries that produce the most pollution should be held accountable.
SomeMichGuyM
@ddlknaz Fear-mongering?

You simply don't get it.

Coral cores show that oceans have never been as warm as now for the entire lives of corals cored...

The Antarctic ice cores show that the recent climate change is greater than any of a series of cycles recorded in the cores earlier.

Scientists now realize that data from the 1960s & 1970s was the early data about the current change.

To say *climate* is always changing...WEATHER is always changing, but CLIMATE is a much broader thing, and the current climate change is historic, esp. per the Antarctic ice cores.

Anyone who quotes The Old Farmer's Almanac as their source of climate change data is simply not serious.

@SomeMichGuy I think I get it pretty well being on this earth for 65 years. The fear mongering comment comes from groups that blame every disaster on global warming, climate change, the world is going to end in 9 years, etc. I have seen most of these disasters before in my life time and it seems we are still here. Can we do better, sure we can, I never said improvement wasn't needed.

The ice cores you talk about, kind of indicates there wasn't as much ice pack in the past, doesn't it?

You mentioned CO2 being a problem... what are we going to do cork up all of the volcanos? I grew up in Southern California when you couldn't see the buildings of Los Angeles because of smog. We have found and continue to find ways to clean it up. I also remember huge forest fires around Yellowstone that were allowed to burn themselves out and let nature do what it has done for hundreds of years. It's only when population is near that a weather event becomes a problem.

The Farmers Almanac is a good source of data is all. Most any records for temp and floods, and such can be found in it, and some of those records still have not been broken.

Truth is, if we actually knew what is causing what happens on earth, good or bad, we would know how to correct it, we don't, you don't, and the powers that be don't either... which brings us back to how our debate started.
