Why are many American Christians so opposed to immigration? That's directly in violation of their religion. [Spirituality & Religion]

The bible contradicts itself in a lot of ways on a lot of subjects, but it is very consistent on the subject of immigration. The bible is extremely pro-immigration. There is an abundance of bible verses about "treating the sojourner as your friend or neighbor" and "inviting them to your feasts."

if you are referring to the US its about safety and following the rules.

@SW-User Why is it that every time you lose an argument, you try to distract me from it by abandoning the argument and instead accusing me of baseless shit?

@PissAndVinegar Alright, fine, sorry. Don't be such a bitch about it.

"Christians" are not against immigration and never have been. That's silly. "They" do not have a unified positon on such a issue. However, Americans who happen to also be Christians are against ILLEGAL immigration. Christians are admonished to obey the laws they are citizens of, especially those passed in democratic/republican systems of government. This happens to include the legal process by which omeone comes into the country. Thus they are in fact following Biblical injunction.

Perhaps the question is why the world thinks Americans - Christian or not - must accept the violtaion of their laws to accomodate anyone who decides to illegally corss their borders, something no other country is expected to do ...or does!
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@BlueMetalChick I responded directly to the false premise of the question. Pity you cannot understand that, just as it is a pity you are so illiterate you cannot make an argument without resorting to obscenities - the mark of a true child intellectually.

However I do understand why the word "shit" comes so easily to you and others of your type - like your carnival-show tattooed urka friend here - as you simply are referencing what no doubt makes up most of what is in between your ears and passes for your brain.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Abrienda That's not what a false premise is, rucka. You gotta learn what that word means before you say it. It's funny, because you just totally fucked up at using a word, and then called someone else illiterate. It's beautiful that works, isn't it?

I'm not "resorting" to obscenities. I'm an ESL, and profanity is a normal part of my vocabulary. But seriously, try actually replying to me and what I said instead of the language I use cos that ain't what we're here for.

Oh yeah! We totally have nothing between our ears, and yet you can't answer a simple question and instead make an assclown of yourself by pretending to use words when you haven't got a clue in hell what they mean.

PAV, it seems to be a popular idea going around that the Bible 'contradicts' itself; but if these so-called 'contradictions' were to be scrutinised closely enough, they'd show the contradiction/s to be in people's understanding of the Bible.

Someone on EP once said there were contradictions in the Bible and so I asked him to show me. When I explained the so-called 'contradictions' to him and how there weren't contradictions, he deleted the post.

Why are American Christians so opposed to immigration? I can imagine that a lot of them think that the liberal left has an agenda to bring in as many immigrants as they can so that they can get more votes to stay in power/gain more power.

Not at all. Christianity says nothing about immigration. Our church however does sponsor refugees regardless of their religion. We brought a couple of Buddhist refugees from Vietnam. They became Christian because they could not understand why we would bring them to a safe land from the refugee camp they were living in.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@PissAndVinegar BTW sojourner means someone who is TEMPORARILY in a place. A traveler. A wanderer. Not an immigrant.

Just go back to prison where you belong...thouh obviously they didn't have very good library there, based on how little you know of the world (or Russia).

By the way, Shostakovich was a second-rate Stalinoid stooge. No wonder you like him so much. Funny though...a "Russian" who never heard of Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina? Google "Great Russian Operas" if you are going to keep up your Russian impersonation so that when you meet people like myself who have REAL Russian friends won't make you look like the pathetic ass you are, revered only by those stupider than yourself (I hope you see yourself in that description, Blewtricyclechiclet).

I don't know anyone who is opposed to immigration. Obviously, you can't tell the difference between legal and illegal.
katielass · F
@SW-User I don't believe trump is the Christian spokesman. He's the president with the power to regulate who is allowed here.
katielass · F
@PissAndVinegar No, I'm afraid you don't know anything. The sane people are against illegal immigration. And many of us are in favour of limiting immigration to those who can take care of themselves, meaning people with skills or useful knowledge, like scientists. I'm sure some right thinking people are Christians but your premise that "Christians are against immigration" is false. There are just as many, if not more, Christians who want this country to take in every last person on earth who doesn't have 3 TV's and a home. Some of them even hide illegals in their churches.

Yes a tattoed URKA (ypka). You claim you are from Russia....and a criminal with tattoos...and you don't KNOW what an "urka" is but I do?

So apart from being uneducated in American history, Christianity or common decency you don't, as a Russian criminal, know Russian criminal slang either? Unfortunately for you I happen to know some REAL Russians, so add "liar" and "fraud" to the above list!

Done with you. Enjoy life in prison...or when returned to the mental institution you escaped from.

masterofyou · 70-79, M
@PissAndVinegar No it is not it is a part of the equation... This country is a pretty nice place to be everyone once to come here but they have to follow our laws... Has nothing to do with Christianity...

First of all, if a person is opposed to immigration, then they must belong to some extremist sect. Illegal immigration, and the taking in of refugees is the issue. Illegal immigration is illegal and poses a threat to national security. Taking in refugees from Syria and vicinity also poses a threat to national security, and public safety. We have western Europe as a model to prove that.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
I don't think they're all like that. The problem I find with many Christians though is that they know less about their book than I do. Or they have selective blindness to what is written therein. Or they only use the New testament because the old one is full of inexplicable hypocrisy that can't be explained away.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@PissAndVinegar I think this might tickle your fancy while giving you a laugh and some ammunition. A letter written to a certain Christian talk show host yrs ago.

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination… end of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them.

Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual unseemliness – Lev. 15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev. 1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination – Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?
Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?
Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev. 24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

Your adoring fan,

@PissAndVinegar Indeed ! That letter is basically a work of art. :-)
Most people in the Bible Belt think Jesus Christ had long blonde hair, blue eyes, and white skin when in reality he most likely looked like an average middle eastern man ....I think From the beginning of America, even the puritans wanted a very insular and segregated life from the natives. I feel like in America Christianity and nationalism play a big part together as I think the major reservation people have about immigrants is that they are a threat to "gods chosen country" and competing with "blue collar Jesus loving Americans" is a direct violation to their perceived Christian ideology....I don't think enforcing ILLEGAL immigration laws are violating Christian faith as simply following rules set by a sovereign country isnt wrong in its self but I do feel like a large percentage of christians in America don't want to see foreigners come into America legally either
firefall · 61-69, M
American evangelicals are opposed to the bulk of what the bible says Jesus taught, as well. Turn the other cheek, give up your possessions and dedicate yourself to service, love one another ... one reason I call them Christianists, rather than Christians.

I've met some actual Christians in the US, but, not so many (or maybe they feel compelled to keep it quiet, to avoid headbutting with the evangelicals).

it's not just the xtians.

weird things is.. most of these people were/are immigrants themselves.

and i'm also not sure how they think they're 'possessionism' is going to work out.

i mean, what part of the land do they really own? even if they have a deed .. it doesn't belong to them.

it can always be ejected by our governing agencies.

it's down to simple bigotry.

nothing more. people tell me to go back to europe? or africa? i go "tell that to my cherokee/blackfoot side, i dare you!"

weird thing also is.. those who go on about immigration the most are the one's who used it the most.

i have a better idea.. take a DNA test and then do research on how the process of immigration works.. OR is suppose to work.

then talk to those who are being "processed" then come on back and whine to everyone how the illegals are destroying this country.

wait, that takes work, i'm sorry most like to spout off their ignorance without any reservation or worry that it makes them look uneducated.

Because Christianity, unlike Islam, does not have a legal system, it is not a theocracy. Many issues can be independent of their religion, and in certain circumstances, a christian, or any other religious person, may seemingly have to go against their religion. I suppose Jesus told us to invite neighbours to your feasts on the assumptions that you won't get raped afterwards. Over here in Europe, many people offering aid to migrants have been raped and killed by them.

Also, they see it as a tool for globalisation, which many believe is the one world government of the beast.
