Why the crap is circumcision still a thing? [Spirituality & Religion]

I asked this the other day and the best response i got was "because babies don't remember the pain".
There is no acceptable reason for mutilating a baby

And why does it matter to you what other people do? It doesn't affect you at all and is none of your business is it?

It's kinda in support of the Jewish culture after ww2
ChickenInvasion · 31-35, M
Im not supporting what ur bringing up... But I'm saying that is completely unrelated to circumsision in the west
girlscumfirst · 51-55, M
Of course you are.
ChickenInvasion · 31-35, M
Ok

I agree, it should only be allowed for medical reasons.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Way back in the '50's and '60's it was only ever done if it were deemed medically necessary. Or if it were for religious reasons.

Baby boys often pick up urinary infections in their early days,so circumcision is often performed at that point. But, at some point (in America at least) it became a generalized thing to do.
Seen more as a preventative measure i imagine.

Modern medical thinking seems to favour not doing it unless necessary.

@MetalGreymon: There is a school of thought that suggests it's a form of unnecessary mutilation and there are many 'groups' out there advocating that it be banned.
girlscumfirst · 51-55, M
@Picklebobble2:

So both schools of thought want to stop the practice!
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@Picklebobble2:

...it IS unnecessary mutilation. That's what i'm saying lol
Quizzical · 46-50, M
Good old fashioned child mutilation... Thank you religion for yet another wonderful addition to society!

The American medical association states that there is a significantly reduced health risk for circumcised males. And most females agree it looks better.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Peekaboo: Brainwashing and skewed results
SW-User
@Quizzical: It's doubtful that a body of trained professionals would be as careless as you suggest.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Peekaboo: It's just odd that they have found 'data' that no other medical professionals in any other country have found.

Here in the UK we have a medical establishment easily the equal of any other in the world, and they are certainly not advocating circumcision, otherwise it would be being done as standard.
girlscumfirst · 51-55, M
It's quite disgusting. If it was a female it would be FGM. It's a male, and it's MGM
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@girlscumfirst:

I know right? In any other context it's obviously abhorrent.
girlscumfirst · 51-55, M
@MetalGreymon: The context is immaterial. It's deliberate mutilation.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@girlscumfirst:

Oh i agree. I mean that in every other context people can see that it's a fucked up thing to do, but when it comes to circumcision, well that's just tradition😒
33person · 26-30, M
Because religion is still a thing, and it comes from religious ritual.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@33person:

That's fine. So wait until the kid is old enough to choose it for themselves
girlscumfirst · 51-55, M
@33person: Female genital mutilation is "justified" in precisely the same way.
SW-User
Ask a jew.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@kingfish2:

No reason jews can't keep getting circumcised. Just wait till the kid can choose it
It's still being done for religious reasons, and groups like the AMA keep waffling on whether or not it prevents things like penile cancer and other diseases (their original justification for supporting the practice).
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard:

I get the religious angle. I just think that you could still do your covenant with god if you wait until the kid is old enough to choose it.

To the best of my knowledge, there may be some slight benefit with penile cancer but penile cancer is so rare that it doesn't validate the preemptive mutilation of babies as a matter of course

Ad hominem attack.
No rebuttal of the point. Only a dismissal of my position based on my religious views.

lol you've just embarrassed yourself VERY badly and simultaneously proven that you're not on an intellectual level that is worth my time to indulge.

Now make your final oh so scathing response and be on your way...
