God scares me. [Spirituality & Religion]

When I hear people say that they love God, that they fear God, that God is almighty, and when I think about how people believe they are punished with eternity in Hell for disobeying God, the only appropriate words that I can find are "Abusive relationship".

God gives you rules. He punishes you with pain and suffering if you disobey him, he makes you fear him, so much so that you can't leave him. He traps you in a world where he is the ultimate authority. They way people speak of their devotion to God... it makes me so very sad. The saddest thing of all, though, is that almost all the religious people I know are beautiful, wonderful, kind people. And I think they deserve better than to worship someone who would throw them into an eternal Hell so nonchelantly.

If you believe in God, that's fine. I mean, I disagree with you and feel sorry for you, but I also defend your right to believe whatever you believe. I just wanted to explain my point of view.

Love to all. ❤
It really makes me sad to hear you say that, Chloe. I understand why you said it, but there's another side of that story. God's not out to hurt or destroy anyone. He loves us unconditionally. Jesus cares. What more could He have done? I'm grateful Jesus loved us enough to provide us all a way to have eternal life in heaven with him. If it weren't for Him, we'd all miss heaven, because our sins separate us from Him. We must not become so consumed with having all the answers, that we miss eternal life. That would be a tragedy.

Man says... Show me, and I'll trust you.
God says... Trust Me, and I'll show you. Psalms 126:6

"He that comes to Me, I will in no way cast out."

He didn't destroy his enemies the day they hung Him on the cross. He could have, but instead, he forgave them, even after all that, and called his crucifiers his "friends", then asked his Father to forgive them, for they know not what they do. That doesn't sound like a ruthless God to me, nor one who doesn't care. He didn't have to die for us, but he did. He volunteered to lay down his life, because he is not willing that any should perish.

I think it's clear in my post that I'm scared of God as a concept that people believe in, not as an actual real God. I read the Bible. You have to know what you're discussing before you discuss it. You do have the right to share your beliefs, as do I. I waw not reffering to you in that post when talking about forcing beliefs, I'm sorry it appeared that way. However, you have been patronising me throughout this entire conversation, so that's something to think on.

As for respect, I try to respect people and their opinions. But frankly, in your case, I lost that capability when you implied that my love for my girlfriend was sinful, and therefore wrong.
Read into it what you want. I didn't imply anything. I said God is against that type relationship.
walabby · 61-69, M
@RoboChloe: I can't see who you are talking to here, so I presume that it is someone that has blocked me, probably for my views on religion.. :D . If that's the case it means that I must have won my argument.. :) :D

While I do agree with you on that people should be allowed to believe whatever they want to believe, there was an apt analogy of it that I've heard before which goes with the whole abusive relationship angle.

Goes something like this: "God made humans with the ability to sin, then punished them for sinning. After that he decided that he would rape a virgin and risk her marriage to give birth to his son so that his son could die a slow and torturous death to save humans from going to hell for their sin. But not all of them, just the ones willing to venerate him. The rest can still all go burn in hell."

A pretty strange logic goes into justifying that set of actions and thinking he's still a beneficent god.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Americanisbabylon: So she was chosen to be raped. Gotcha. He made sure to case the joint first. Very important step.

@RoboChloe: Oh yeah, many many many examples. I just found it to be a particularly poignant one.

"Abusive relationship" That is right! Well said! There's another word for all of that too...nonsense...that is my belief
He's a sadist what do you expect? Once I realized that I wasn't going to get after care from his daily abuse, I rolled my eyes told em to fk off.

Now I'm the perfect place where weather or not he's real I couldn't give af honestly.
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
Spoken that way he sounds like a dictator
Fernie · F
@UserName1234: Yes...he is...acts just like that god
walabby · 61-69, M
@Fernie: ... and He's very, "Do as I say, not as I do"... as is evident by what happened to the people that used to live in Sodom, Gomorrah, Jericho, Ai and other places... :/

Yeah they should worship a big friendly mother figure in the sky with whopping great big boobies, huge hips and a big bouncy ass who is benevolent and looks after everyone!! I'm not religious but I'd be alright worshipping her.
Fernie · F
is that the only thing you could come up with to respond to this very young woman Mr. Classy???
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Allelse: You must mean The Great Mother - a Pagan goddess. That's a religion that does make sense.
melovemycats · 26-30, F
I'm an atheist, but if there is a God after I die, I'd tell him to go fuck off and send me to hell. I'd rather be there than worshipping his ass for all eternity. But that's all assuming that God is anything like how people describe him as.
Allelse · 36-40, M
Hah! Brilliant.
MrX2017 · 51-55, M
@melovemycats: You're as sharp as a bowling ball. I am sure that you will get what you want.

There is no relationship of any sort possible. It's the mind giving form to an irrational idea; tenacious self convincing.
MrX2017 · 51-55, M
@Peekaboo: You have strange ideas.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Lewis47: Not as strange as believing figments of one's imagination are real.
MrX2017 · 51-55, M

Most people don't know God. I have no fear of God. He is very loving and kind and gentle and patient with us.
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
We don't hate him. We don't believe he exists at all.
SW-User
@RoboChloe: That is your loss. Good luck to you.
Fernie · F
@RoboChloe: seems so simple doesn't it?
Recovery420 · 26-30, M
Well, God. He's literally my friend. I do not fear his punishment, but I fear losing him or I fear he'll losing me. But no, he's very patient to me. I got overdose 10 times, and still alive kickin. That made me thought that God was so good, and he's so patient to me :) peace
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
You're still alive because Doctors are awesome. Saying that it has anything to do with God is a massive disrespect to the men and women who work incredibly hard to keep you, and everyone else, healthy.
Recovery420 · 26-30, M
@RoboChloe: no doctors around me when that shit happens. Only my mum and my friends.. 10 times overdose. Lol. Not to disrespect people around me, you know. But sometimes, IDK it's irritating for debating about God's existence because He exist in our reality, but he had no physical body.. so we couldn't see him, we could only 'feel' him. Dat 'feel' things... wtf you know, but I got it sometimes lol
I understand your concerns with peoples views of God.
The issues might be with the people and how they believe. Not with God.
Consider what he is, and consider how he is actually viewed by people who have had him used as a threat rather than who he really is.
@RoboChloe: Funny, i find just the opposite. I have no fear of the Lord outside of the utmost respect.
Fernie · F
@RoboChloe: the buybull is nothing but horror
Fernie · F
@Discombobulatedbunny: that is the exact BS trump supporters spew to defend the orange demon.
Goralski · 51-55, M
Happy Easter 😬
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
I despise Easter.
Goralski · 51-55, M
@RoboChloe: of course you do
Abbenthewarwolf · 18-21, M
A vengeful God.to a people that would not do what was right whom he has chosen as his own.a father admonish his children when they misbehave.maybe men has written what suited themselves in order to control.by fear.when in truth the deity may has said something enterly different
MrX2017 · 51-55, M
Believe me when I tell you, there's no need to feel sorry for me. If anything, I feel kind of bad that you're outlook in all probability
only includes whatever time you have left on this earth.
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
The fact that the only time I have is what's in this life is what makes every second of that life so precious.
MrX2017 · 51-55, M
@RoboChloe: Good luck with that...
th3r0n · 41-45, M
God is real and true, but you say he traps us in a world he controls? He made it all, and us with it, how is that trapping?

Truth is, I wouldn't be alive right now if not for God.
Allelse · 36-40, M
@th3r0n In other words you're saying 'DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!".
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
"God" doesn't frighten me because it doesn't exist but there are some dangerously deluded people who believe it does. They can be frightening.

Idk what God you're talking about there are many
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
I know. I mas merely referring to the Abrahamic God that saturates most religious culture around me, because it is the God I encounter the most.
