Why can't you let people believe what they want without getting angry?

@Raffie:
Debate is the cornerstone of intellectual growth. Being exposed to alternative points of view and being able to maintain your position intelligently in the face of them strengthens your convictions.
Fleeing from contradiction only speaks to your lack of meaningful understanding of what you believe

@UnparalleledMonster: perhaps this is not about philosophy and that is where you differ, not looking to argue with you, but it could be about a spiritual truth which is harder to debate,

@Raffie:
Well i think of spiritual truth as something like "i know god is real because i know".
I think being able to stand behind associated tenets of that fundamental belief requires intellectual integrity. If one is not willing to support assertions in that area, one should not make them. Or at least not get so upset when someone challenges them.

I'm not sure it's always about safeguarding your belief. Sometimes it's just about creating an environment you want to hang out in.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
Perhaps. Personally i find hanging out in an echo chamber pointless.
Who wants to just hear echoed at them what they already believe? Where is the growth?

@UnparalleledMonster: Right. But you're assuming that everyone see's this place through the same lens as you. They don't. People come here for different reasons.
And come on. Are online debates from those on the opposite side of issues really about "growth" or are they about ego? I don't grow much from those types of things. Maybe you do though.

@Ynotisay:
Yeah i get that. Some people just want to surround themselves in an unchallenging environment of people who agree with them.
That's fine.
But don't get into a debate and then get mad when you're challenged to defend your point of view. That's all.

What post was it in and I'll tell you 😊

@UnparalleledMonster: not everyone has your intellect, as I can see from your posts is quite high, so perhaps it is best to not engage!
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@Raffie: lol i don't know about that. But i can't seem to help but try to get people to engage on a meaningful level.
Usually unrewarding, but sometimes it happens!
