Do you think Creationism should be taught in school? If so, why? [Spirituality & Religion]

And of course i mean taught in the same way evolution is taught, not as a lesson in comparative religion.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
From a purely scientific point of view. YES! Darwinian evolution has too many flaws to even be considered as science.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
All he did was tell me I do not know science and I am uninformed. Trust me don't get sucked into his hole of ignorance. I think he just likes pissing people off.
@JimboSaturn:

Yeah that sounds familiar.
I wonder if he thinks he's holding his own.
If our roles were reversed i think i would feel incredibly frustrated because i have confidence that i'm right but i can't debate any of the counter arguments being raised
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I'm just too lazy to try an educate him; there is sooo much to recap! @CaptainGargoyle:
Pfuzylogic · M
I think evolution is pure fantasy but since science is done by observation; who is able to observe God in a scientific manner?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@AnotherBowieFan:

Well i guess that answers that question lol
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
They don't even know what evolution is !!! read people, fuck! lol@UnparalleledMonster:
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Lucy was not a fake, it was another Victorian hoax. Lucy has been carbon dated and is completely legit. @Pfuzylogic:
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I shouldn't have even read this post and completely ridiculous replies from creationists and people who know absolutely nothing about science, sigh
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
"...the natural lacks sufficient causation"
For what?

" That is called hubris"
No, it's called superstition arising from lack of knowledge.

Are those your 'sources'?

You conjure up an unnecessary magical entity (out of nowhere!) and then try to support it with Special Pleading.

That's neither philosophy nor science.

That's sophistry
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2: existence. there is insufficient causation for existence.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
There is insufficient causation for your magical entity.
In fact, there's none at all... which is why you resort to Special Pleading.

As I said... you've explained nothing
puppylove · M
As long as Mother Goose, and Grimm's Fairy Tales are also taught as factual subjects
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
lol
I am opposed to science denialism in all its forms.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
a fair stance
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
a breath of fresh air
Doomflower · 36-40, M
No. It is not science and should not be taught with science.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
Some people (you, perhaps, joe?) drink more alcohol in a single evening than I've drunk in my entire life.
Yes, that's why you shouldn't say NO to other people's opinion's or insult them trying tp bully them, when they don't agree with yours JOE. Unless yo have a reason to?
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
But such trivia aside, can we now get back on track?

Do you have a theory we can explore?
What does the theory seek to explain?
Nettle · F
Not unless it's a religious school.
Otherwise we may as well teach kids that unicorns are hiding in the attic, that vampires will get anyone who stays out after curfew, and that whatever daddy does to his children was ordained by god, and so must be OK ...😟
(Or anything the priest does ... or anyone else for that matter!)😕
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
UnparalleledMonster, I don't see how creationism could be taught... there's nothing to teach.

It's an unsupported claim that some or other magical entity appeared from nothing and then made everything else from nothing.

It'd be tough to get a single lecture out of that wholly unnecessary proposition, let alone a semester or so.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@newjaninev2:

lol yeah they definitely play it a bit fast and loose when using words like "science" and "evidence"
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
How about we teach other creationist myths like native American creation myths; hey maybe some Norse mythology in science class! Thor!!! Thor!

Hey maybe we can teach the pantheon of Greek gods in science class!!!!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Ok I've said enough defending something as proven as the world is round or the earth revolves around the sun. Screw this, good night everyone :P
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
I think philosophy should be taught in schools and creationism would naturally be a part of that together with many other things. This would help kids to think for themselves.
@Wraithorn: You can presume what ever you want. Others (?) may presume what they want also.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@softspokenman: Are you having a bad day ? That's not my fault dude. Take it out on someone else.
LOL, not a bad day, thanks for your concern dude. 8) "The more I learn about others the better I understand myself" anon. Have a good day man.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Evolution scares hippyjoe because he feels it negates life and take the meaning away from existence. His arguments are not based on logic but on his fear of what natural explainations of reality represent to him; that is meaninglessness.
It seems more like the fear of dying and going to hell that he has been indoctrinated with. "Don't eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge."
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Exactly he is afraid of his own mortality. To him science represents meaninglessness.@softspokenman:
Elegy · 46-50
It isn't science it's faith and school should not be in the business of teaching religious faith.
Elegy · 46-50
They would say it is faith based on the word of the lord but yes, essentially.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
Yes, they have faith that there's a 'lord', they have faith that there's a 'word' from that 'lord'... etc.
Pretence piled onto pretence.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
I guess that only religion could take pride from making pretence into a virtue :-)
Ynotisay · M
In a public school in the United States?
Ab-so-freaking-lutely not.
Learning is about facts and public school is about learning. Creationism is not a fact. It can be taught outside of public school.
sarahtree · F
no it's stupid
Why don't we also teach about unicorns in zoology then? Why should we brainwash students with religious bs?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
lol indeed

@Halcyon: ☺️
Elegy · 46-50
You're one of the good ones Cherny
SW-User
@Halcyon: Yay!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Evolution explains everything to perfection. All of biology now makes sense because of evolutionary theory.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Shut up @JimboSaturn: explained.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
You are a boring scared little troll. @hippyjoe1955:
Taliesin33 · 46-50, M
Evolution doesn't explain where life came from. It isn't supposed to.
ExploringThoughts · 36-40, M
Of course not.

Rather, where is the outcry of science exclusion, including evolution, within private religious schools?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
Meh. I guess if it's a private school they can teach whatever they want
ExploringThoughts · 36-40, M
@UnparalleledMonster: What if they use public funding then for the private schools, such as with charter schools?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@ExploringThoughts:

Yeah that is irritating. But we're already letting them teach that god invented the universe so i think that ship has sailed lol
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
He doesn't accept any science that he believes contradicts his narrow right wing, fundamentalist viewpoint. He ignores facts. I've had the same debate of climate change and many other subjects.
Separation of church and state. Evolution can be questioned, Religion ..... ?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Except evolution is a religion. Witness the efforts to ban any and all theories that question its orthodoxy.
@hippyjoe1955: WE, learn by questioning, witness the efforts to question (some?) religions.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@softspokenman: I agree. I question established science all the time. The theory of evolution is but one of many that I do not accept as presented. There is not sufficient causation in material to justify the theory. Much the same way I don't accept the theory of AGW. Trace gasses do not have enough of an effect to make dramatic changes in temperature. However questioning things like evolution and AGW will get you branded as a heretic on sites like this one which indicates that for many those theories are not science they are religion.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Do creationists believe the earth is only 4 thousand years old , or the universe is only 4 thousand years old?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Because that is another crazy failure of creationism, unless you deny all fields of science!
