We don't know but we can choose to believe him so.

Some of those umpteen quotes seem nearer the Unitarian than Trinitarian interpretation of the stories, and some faiths revere Jesus as a very able teacher but fully human not divine; but please note that I don't claim any one is any more "right" or "wrong" than any other.
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell
I fail to see any Unitarian doctrine supported here. This is definitely supporting the traditional Trinity belief.
Carazaa · F
@Pfuzylogic Thank you! The entire Bible supports the Father, Son, The Holy Spirit. I only quote the Bible, no other book!
Carazaa · F
@ArishMell JESUS IS LORD. WE KNOW THAT!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Carazaa "Shouting" like that is ill-mannered, needless and self-destructive.

We all know you believe in Jesus and I do not condemn you or"shout" at you for that.

The Unitarians happen to think Jeus is Lord too, but simply all three entities to be manifestations of the same deity, from their own interpretations of the Bible.

Other sects including yours have their own interpretations of the same collection of ancient books too, but I don't try to claim any sect's ideas is any more right ot wrong than any others.

It's nothing more than personal belief.
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell
You aren’t in agreement with Jesus neither is the Unitarian church.
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic Does my agreeing or not with the Bible or not, really matter? Of course not.

Does the Non-Conformists' interpretation really matter to anyone except them? Of course not.

I made a simple observation but also made clear I am not concerned with pointless "right" or "wrong" arguments about personal faiths.

The Trinitarians believe in Jesus in one way, the Unitarians believe in Jesus in another way; Muslims and (I think) the Plymouth Brethren believe in Jesus in yet another way; dis-believers might accept Jesus' existence but not divinity.

I do not know and do not care who is ""right" or "wrong". I am interested in why people believe as they do, but I am not concerned with the validity of their beliefs, especially when even devout believers can't agree over the same thing!

It does not matter!
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell Jesus does not give a choice in how you believe in him.
Either he is Lord or you have no Faith.
It isn’t up to the Unitarians to decide who God is when he clearly states it.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic I see your point in your first sentence - and of course to anyone not believing in God the whole thing is meaningless anyway.

On your criticism of dissenters though, it is not for you or I to say who is "right" or "wrong", to enforce a particular dogma. It is a matter of personal faith right for the individual believer.

And the Unitarians do say Jesus is the Lord - by believing Jesus, God and The Holy Ghost are all one being. I do not know, nor really care, if their interpretation of the Bible is fair or not. I simply accept that is what they think; just as I accept what the Trinitarians think.

You may not like others holding different religious views from yours; but you can only accept it is their right to do so.
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell
You summarized her scriptures as being closer to the Unitarian doctrine when it is the farthest thing from it. She laid out scripture that was non compromising claiming Jesus as God and all other claims to be deceptive.
It really couldn’t be simpler.
Carazaa · F
@Pfuzylogic 🤗🙏
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic All right, I'll clarify what I said.

I used, "some" of", and "seem". I.e. I did not offer a blind definition, nor did I criticise Carazaa's (and your) belief.

I did not plough through the entire three or four 19" screen-depths, but some of Carazaa's long selection of quotes made me think they might be among those that had inspired the Unitarian interpretation, hence suggesting some understanding of that point of view.

They of course are as entitled to be understood and treated with respect for their verion of the same faith, as you are for yours.

I did NOT think Carazaa is promoting Unitarian theology. I know she, and you, do not. That does not matter though. Both Trinitarians and Unitarians are still Christians, I am neither but try to understand different beliefs even though not mine; and for one lot to attack the other lot for differences of dogma is silly and needless.
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell
The Unitarian Church is not a Christian Church. I will repeat the. The Unitarian is a patchwork of many religions but I guarantee that whatever they teach from the Christian Church is adulterated and of little use to be saved by the Holy Spirit.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic I wasa hoping you'd be above slagging off other Christian sects merely because they happen not to be your own.
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell
The Unitarian Church is not Christian.
Stop your deception.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic I am not lying, thank you very much.

I know the Unitarians worship the same God as you and the ancient Hebrews but by different sources, they either see Jesus and God as one, or Jesus as purely human. At heart though it's still the same god called "God".

So what though? It's their choice. It does not matter to you or I.

However, whilst I accept you are free to despise sects not your own, I do not support the dangerous and divisive but ultimately pointless world of sectarianism.
Pfuzylogic · M
@ArishMell You have absolutely no authority on who God is. The Unitarian church is lost on even identifying God.
You either accept Jesus on his terms or you don’t.
I take his Word that he is the Son of God who came to save me from sin. Any other person who speaks for God and adds anything to modify what Jesus said; bears false witness.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@ArishMell How do you "choose" to believe something? Choice implies free will. Can you "choose" to believe in Jesus today, Buddha tomorrow, and nothing the next day? People have no more control over what they believe than they do over their eye color.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Pfuzylogic You're confusing "unitarianism" with the Unitarian Universalist Church. They're not the same thing. I agree that the Unitarian Church is not conventionally Christian, as you can be a member even if you're Jewish, or atheist, or anything else.

The OP is employing "unitarianism" as a philosophy in contrast with "trinitarianism." Unitarianism holds that the trinity doesn't exist, claiming that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one and the same rather than three different entities. It's entirely possible to be a Christian and a "unitarian" (small "u").
Pfuzylogic · M
@Lila15
I made clear in my argument I was speaking of the Unitarian Church. It was his place to correct and he chose not to.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Pfuzylogic I know you were referring to the Unitarian Universalist Church. However, the OP was referring to unitarianism. He probably doesn't think there's any point in correcting you, or maybe he hasn't logged in since then.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Lila15
Who knows?
I am glad you are defending your interruption.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Pfuzylogic What interruption? This is a public space. If you want to have a private discussion with the OP, send him a DM.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic
The Object of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches is “to promote a free and inquiring religion through the worship of God and the celebration of life; the service of humanity and respect for all creation; and the upholding of the liberal Christian tradition.”
I lifted that directly from the Unitarian Church's own web-site. I think we can agree they would know their own theology rather better than you and I do - and I say, "Good luck to them" Or "God Bless".
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Lila15 Simple. It's called freedom of personal choice.

I assume that your being able to ask that question on this thread on this site, means you, like me, live in a free country not a totalitarian theocracy or anti-theocracy.

Ergo we are free to adopt,leave or change whatever religious belief we wish. Such a belief is not a physical characteristic like eye-colour; but an opinion formed from many emotional and intellectual influences you are open to question for yourself.

I am not saying someone would be a Christian today, Buddhist tomorrow, etc. as readily as you seem to suggest. Nevertheless, many people do change their religious views; converting from no faith to a faith, from faith to no faith, or from one faith to another.

They have their own reasons; e.g., to escape a particular faith or sect, or from personal spiritual yearning. They don't do it on a whim, but through considerable thought and self-examination. And in many of the escapees' or apostates' cases, considerable courage even in nations that allow it.

I am from an informally Anglican background. I have friends who are ordained priests and I attended by invitation the ordination of one. The last funeral I attended was a Salvation Army, Christian service. Yet none of that makes me a Christian of any sect, or follower of any other faith, because way back in my teens, believing in supernatural deities stopped meaning much to me.

As I say, personal choice; and you have expressed the same right of choice by following your chosen sect of Christianity.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Lila15
This whole discussion diverts from the knowledge that Jesus is King. This thread was started by that. You can also lecture elsewhere. You lack knowledge in Christianity and your attitude towards your Elders echoes that. Church would do you some good!
