Why do christians pray? [Spirituality & Religion]

According to the christian myth, their god has this great plan and always does what's best for us. Praying amounts to asking it to do something it hadn't thought of doing. Isn't it rather arrogant of them to presume they know better than their "almighty god"?

Wow. I'm not a very religious person but was struck at the level of disrespect you have for those who are. I've never understood how someone could be so disrespectful towards another's beliefs when those beliefs are causing them no harm whatsoever. Just wondering... are you British?

@carpediem How is asking a question about a person's beliefs "disrespectful"? Whenever I've put similar questions to members of other religions I've always received polite, thoughtful, responses. At least one christian here has managed to do that too. It seems christians, in general, just want everyone to accept what they say without question.

@Sharon You must be quite self absorbed. You refer to Christian beliefs as a myth for starters. You accuse them of being arrogant. And then in parentheses you call out "almighty god". And you don't feel any of that is disrespectful?

As I said, I'm not a religious person. But I don't go out of my way to disrespect another person's beliefs as you have. So I pose the question to those reading this exchange.

Are there any Christians reading this who felt disrespected by the way Sharon posed her question? If so, please comment.

The stories in the bible are myths. Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy et al. are considered mythical beings too. From a completely objective point of view, what is the difference?
And then in parentheses you call out "almighty god".
The quote are to make it clear that I'm quoting verbatim how christian describe their god rather than it being a view I share.
But I don't go out of my way to disrespect another person's beliefs as you have.
I fail to see how asking a question about a person's beliefs is disrespectful.

No doubt you'll find some fundamentalist christians who will claim to be offended. There are those who are offended by anyone who fails to accept what they say without question, even christians of other denominations.

Have you seen @Abstraction's comments?

@Sharon You continue to be crude and disrespectful. You attack the very core beliefs of a Christian
The stories in the bible are myths. Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy et al.
As such you're not worth my time.

Edit: A quick browse of your profile shows you to be a hate filled person posting in various Christian hate groups, calling Christians sanctimonious pests and more. Just an awful display of hate based behavior.

No use for anyone like you in this world. Enjoy your hate filled shallow little life.

@carpediem I feel it is disrespectful, but I expect it since Jesus said that in the last day mockers would increase.

No, I question those beliefs.
As such you're not worth my time.
Good riddance to you then.

Good, I don't want to be used by hate mongers like you.

That would explain why some christians deliberately spout complete nonsense, thereby holding themselves up to ridicule to fulfill the "prophecy".
