Tithing is a thing for many [Spirituality & Religion]

I woke up at 5 AM as usual this morning. I finished my prayers and was making a cup of coffee about an hour and a half later when the door bell rang. Strange. Its 6:30 in the morning. Who would be calling on me at this hour. There at the door stood an older gentleman that looked like he had been ridden hard and put away wet a few too many times. In his hand was a large cardboard box. "Not much" he grinned at me "but its all I have". With that he turned and I watched him head up the street. I opened the box. Inside were several bags gourmet potatoes.

Why was he giving you potatoes as a tithe. Are you a pastor?

@Butterflykisses24 I was ordained as pastor in 1986. I now run a outreach ministry to the homeless helping them get back on their feet. The fellow with the potatoes was one such person. He is off both drugs and booze and has a steady but very low paying job. His brain was damaged by his multiple addictions but he never forgets to give me something. I have never asked anyone to give me something. I just get random visits like that one and the people give me what they can. I accept it as I see that they are giving to me like they would give unto the Lord were He here. Jesus said if you give a drink of water to a prophet because he is a prophet you will get a prophet's reward.

@Butterflykisses24 He's one of the meanest hypocrites of a "pastor" you will ever meet!🙄I think he was thrown out of the church years ago...
