Why Do Scoffers Scoff? What's The Big Deal? [Spirituality & Religion]

7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Proverbs 9:7-9

Even those scoffers have intelligence, you can tell they hardly use it by their scoffing.

Wise men use a great amount of intelligence and need not scoff at their instruction.

Amen, brother, amen. They don't realize how stupid their scoffing makes them look.

@GodSpeed63 Most of them think their scoffing makes them look cool of strong.. Nope it just makes them look like stupid jerks..

@Adstar
Make whatever guess you like.
You got that right, Adstar.
This is the twisted lie of man

"I created everything, including evil (but I'm all-good), know and control everything (but I've given you free will) and like committing genocides from time to time (but I'm perfect and without sin). And so I decided to impregnate a random virgin so that my son (who is also me) could be born (even though I'm omnipotent so I could've just come down to Earth myself) so that he (I) could die for your sins (which I created because I created everything; even though I'm infinitely merciful and forgiving so I could've either just forgiven you right away or not have created sin in the first place), stay dead for a few days, then come back and hide for the next millennia.
Oh, I also inspired some random, uneducated desert people to write stories about me (which would explain my conflicting nature) and then had those stories be purposefully changed and twisted by various people to their personal liking."
Because scoffing up once own strawmen argument, is just not what wise men that use a great amount of intelligence do. (they also avoid Pleonasms' when possible)

You, Kwek00, scoff at your own argument? Take your meds, boy.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@GodSpeed63 It's not my argument doofus. It's written by you. You pretty much gave the definition of a strawman argument right there 😂

@Kwek00 “evil” of God is not for bad but for good in the long run! Like a parent that disciplines a child it’s evil to the child!

What happens when a wise man scoffs at what a religion teaches? The Bible will paint non-believers as fools, but this idea is formed on an assumption that only the shunning of reason can lead to truth. If we favor nonsense we'll get a prize- after we're dead?
Sharon · F
@Nika2002 Such an assumption would be unreasonable by definition as there is no evidence to support it.

The wise do not scoff.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@Nika2002
If we unreasonably assume that God exists
Why is it unreasonable to know and believe that Yahweh lives?
Carazaa · F
🙂 Beautiful! Such true words! I need to heed these words!
