What are the benefits of being atheist? [Spirituality & Religion]

BlueVeins · 22-25
-No excessive guilt over silly things (i.e. having a functioning sex drive)
-Time saved from not having to go to church
-More difficult for politicians to manipulate you
-Potential for a more holistic understanding of morality and your own values

Really, these all apply to deists and agnostics as well.
SW-User
@BlueVeins I second this
SW-User
@BlueVeins Well said. In particular the last one. Proven when I come across people who say they don't have any particular problem with homosexuals/homosexuality, but they have to oppose it because of what their religion dictates. Not much of an understanding there.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@SW-User It's so sad to see that kind of shit. 🥺
SW-User
Pro: Full freedom of morality and meaning of life until death 🤷🏾‍♂️

Con: A pointless experience and if one meets God and God exists against all that they pretended and told themselves, may God have mercy on them because this is way worse than ever being wrong about God existing and living a good life
SW-User
@Nanori so I guess it is using our intelligence to reasoning the purpose as we go along. I think he mentioned that :v
Nanori · F
@SW-User you really thought I'd read 50 replies? 👀
SW-User
@Nanori 😂😂
I got no expectations

Our talks are always circular
drymer · 56-60, M
The main one is the feeling of intellectual superiority over those of us ignorant and impressionable beings who are not atheists.
walabby · 61-69, M
@drymer That cuts both ways. I have come across plenty christians who felt soooo superior because THEY were going to heaven...
SW-User
@walabby Exactly
drymer · 56-60, M
@walabby Sadly, it's true. I, too, have come across insufferable holier-than-you Christians. Or should I say, "Christians", in name only, as humility and tolerance should be essential virtues in anyone who consider themselves Christian.
CaptainKirk · 41-45, M
I’m better than religious people because I’m good because I’m a good person, not because I’m scared of retribution from some sort of deity
JBird · F
1. Able to take right decisions that some religious groups would have looked down upon like supporting LGBTQ
2. Have a broader view on life without burden from the religion
3. Able to see all genders as equal.
4. Reduce unnecessary judgements upon people who have different lifestyle.
5. Won't be exploited by religious leaders or groups
6. Able to see unfair practices with religious organizatios and question them that the followers won't do because 'their God said so'.
7. Able to extend a helping hand people of all communities without judging them and wasting time on praying
8. More time for yourself and other people
Nanori · F
Omg @JBird put down your axe and stop being so angryyyyyyyyyyy 🤭
JBird · F
@Nanori aw man... *Putting down the bloody axe* 😒
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Well at least h3 doesn’t waste his energy being angry at a God he doesn’t believe in. 😊@JBird

'My God'
by Valentine

My god
Lives inside
Within me
And yes,
So does my devil
Unfortunately

But my god will prevail
Because he is good
And without vice or sin
And, it is these both
Which ultimately
Will help the other
His nemesis
Dig his own premature pit
And he will be buried
Forgotten
Well, almost

And it may be
That my god
Is the same
As your God
Because he embraces
Goodness
In whatever form

He is not vain
And I believe your God
Is much the same
So they may be friends
Already

That either God
Can seem to allow
Great hurt
Or great pain
Is sometimes perplexing
But, I think I now understand

We are blessed with life
For however long
For however short
Under whatever strain
In whatever form
Transient sometimes
And he is our friend
He is there to support

And if I am right
This same God
Lives within you too

So, as my friend
Our Gods may then join
And we are both stronger
And we share the pain
And the joy
Together

And this joining
This union
Is the beginning
Of something
Much bigger
We may call it
Religion
And this is good
And strong
And collective
And embracing

At least most times

For when it does not
Embrace
Or would inflict power upon
Or would suppress
Other brother
Or sister
Or cousin faiths
Or even those
Who would choose
What you might call
Rejection
This causes harm
And is not
What my god
In his peace
Intended

He gave me
This form
This frame
To live
To create
To perpetuate
And yet
He also gave me
An inner frame
An inner voice
An inner mind
Which lives within

Is it Him
Or Her
It does not matter

It is a voice
A conscious thinking
A spark of life
And it is always there
And it always speaks to me
A comfort
A support

That he gave me
And you
This life
This opportunity
I am grateful
And always will be

Eternally

@Valentine btw, I'm an atheist of sorts.
The CIA pays me 200 $ a month to stay Atheist.

If you say "God damn you", no one gets hurt.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Well you can believe that nothing made something and therefore believe in some sort of magician in the sky. Maybe it’s the flying spaghetti monster that so many atheists are in love with
Speedyman · 70-79, M
I will@Texasgurl
Do as you are instructed.
You spread poison when you do this activity.
@Speedyman
Speedyman · 70-79, M
That’s a fascinating question. Given that I don’t exist, those who don’t believe are the ones in their right minds
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Of course you have come from nowhere, you are going nowhere, and there is no point of life when you’re here as you are just the result of a cosmic accident. In fact, you don’t know whether your own logic is right as everything is accidental make-up of neurons!
Speedyman · 70-79, M
We are justified by grace my friend@Texasgurl
@Speedyman you speak again?
SILENCE!
Speedyman · 70-79, M
🤣🤣🤣@Texasgurl
CaptainKirk · 41-45, M
I don’t have to beg for my life on a daily basis from a magic sky wizard
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Just think, as an atheist you can spend all that time getting mad with a God you don’t believe in! 🤣
@Speedyman you are the faulty one.
you have work to do, if you are to call yourself one of mine.

watch how you speak. this is a problem with so many “devout” christians.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Never mind! @Texasgurl
I will say that to you one day@Speedyman
IHateMyLife0MeDie · 41-45, M
I don't judge people by what affiliation they are, religious, spiritual or otherwise.
There are religious people as much as atheist that I avoid.
It is their character I look into.

gregloa · 61-69, M
