My religious interest started when I recognized the inner qualities of certain people who were engaged in religious practice. They were humble, compassionate, loving, courageous, dignified. I realized they did something, believed in something, that made them different. I wanted to be that way. So I started to follow them.
I just want to say first, that I noticed you talk about "time" quite a bit, in trying to figure God out. None of can logically figure God all the out, because our minds are too finite. God doesn't even think the same way we do. He is far beyond our intelligence, therefore we can never come to a perfect or proper definition of Him. We lack too many details. However, he does allow us to know a good part of him, through his Word. One thing we know, that in eternity, there [u]is[/u] no such thing as time.
The way I gain faith is by exercising it. Learning to trust what God says. He is not a liar. It can be compared to an infant. The first step is not that easy, but the more the child "tests" the steps, the more confidence he/she gains. At some point, one has to realize that if one is to gain more faith, he must "test the waters" and just trust. It becomes easier when you realize that it is [b]not[/b] a blind faith, as you know full well, [b]whom[/b] you have your trust in, and that is the key to security. For example, I know whom I believe in and trust in, so I am secure, because I know Jesus is [i]trustworthy[/i]. How? For one, I have exercised my faith and have found that he is indeed, trustworthy. He never breaks his Word. He always keeps His promises. Plus, I know he is perfect and therefore, incapable of lying. Those are things I can rest in, fully confident. Plus, I know he always has my best interest at heart, and his aim is [i]never to harm me[/i], but to give me hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. We are already given "a measure of faith" when we are born. We can also gain more faith, by reading our Bible about other's experiences, when they decided to let go and trust God, listening to others testimonies about what God has done for them, praying, and reading inspirational messages. Also, if any believer lacks in wisdom, let him ask, and it shall be given liberally. James 1:5

Every so often, just when you think that the world is a terrible place, someone does something wonderful for someone else....and that restores my faith in humanity. It helps me believe that most people are basically good, even though sometimes what happens in the world makes it difficult to have faith in people.

Conditioning/indoctrination since I was born. Lost faith as the years went by. I'm happy I did. Only the weak believe in such fairy tales.

@AnonymousJSS Yes, the self discipline of a buddhist is obviously weak. Especially compared with the excessive indulgence of the modern soul.
