Do you think there is a difference between religion and God [Spirituality & Religion]

It seems to me that the two do not always have to be intertwined.

Atheism is a religion so .....
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@rhouse Belief is what defines a belief system. It is kind of part of the name. Religion is simply another name for belief system.
rhouse · 56-60, M
You are correct about a belief system. You are wrong about religion simply being another name for a belief system. Superstition is a belief system but not a religion. @hippyjoe1955

Religions claim to interpret the will of God. They are not God.
Maximusmax · M
@VeronicaPrincess I agree with that. Religion does claim to know the will of God. And even to say the will of God for everyone
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
@Maximusmax Yes. When the seek to impose their interpretation of God's will upon others, they become.. ungodly.
Maximusmax · M
@VeronicaPrincess unfortunately many people and groups such as lobby groups try to impose their will on others
There is a huge difference between religion and God. I've always said it. Religion is man-made philosophy. Religion did not die on the cross for our sins. Jesus did. That makes it personal.
Being an atheist is a lack of belief in a higher power. Atheists don’t practice this or behave a certain way. I can see why people fight all the time. One person gets mad because of a person’s belief or lack of and claims something to be true that isn’t for simple purpose of making them feel bad about not believing in a god or higher power.

Religion is the institutionalisation of God...some prefer to connect with the latter without the intermediacy of the former! That way God and religion could be in opposite poles...🙄or they don't have to be connected. I don't know this is the way I interpret it
Yasmeena · 26-30, F
I consider myself an atheist because I couldn't worship God or be religious but I believe its possible there is one.
Maximusmax · M
@Yasmeena that actually sounds more like agnostic to me than atheism
Yasmeena · 26-30, F
@Maximusmax I guess
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Most definitely.
There is no difference. To not be a member of a brick and mortar church means one is an apostate. Or so is the conventional view.
@Spoiledbrat That is not what my peers tell me.
Maximusmax · M
@CopperCicada do you always listen to your peers
@Maximusmax Well, as I was raised, to not be a member of a brick and mortar church mean one had forsaken God, the faith, salvation.

It is a view that I hear echoed again and again.

Even those who assert loudly that one's relationship with Christ outweighs a specific confession or participation in a specific church or denomination... condemn those who have a private spirituality or who participate in home churches.
Maximusmax · M
@butterflymind1 I often find people debating religion instead of just God. But not the other way around
xixgun · M
Absolutely.

There are two orders of religion. The easier to conceive (and thus first appearing) involves god(s). The harder to conceive does not, and surpasses the first in both reasonableness and desirability.
Mona86 · C
Yes Gods a free God not controlling
Maximusmax · M
@Mona86 it sounds like you are talking religion and not just God The Creator
Mona86 · C
Yes but he did how then would they appear without being conceived?@Maximusmax
Maximusmax · M
@Mona86 who knows
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
Religion is like a supermarket... It's the middleman between you and the grower!
Maximusmax · M
@ozgirl512 haha. Good one
Isn’t it possible then that some people believe there is a god without being religious thereby not claiming to be Christian catholic Muslim or other religion? @ozgirl512
Possibly. There are people who believe in a deity or higher power but don’t want to be bothered with churches, temples, synagogues, mosques or any of the trappings of organized religion. They describe their beliefs as a relationship between themselves and that deity or power.
Maximusmax · M
@bijouxbroussard excellent observation

@Emosaur I think if I had a twisted view of God I would stick with how you think too
