Do you consider religion a waste of time? [Spirituality & Religion]

By @SW-User
Shaman · 26-30
Not really, organized religion has helped many nations to wage a war by giving them a reason to 🙂
JBird · F
This is me and my opinion only. Yes, I do find religion a waste of time. I think instead spending time and money on churches or prayers, we could use the resources for building better community. I am sorry if I offended any religious people but this is my thought.
One must know the difference between religion and a personal relationship with God. Religion does not concern God. Hearts do.

[c=#BF0000]I would like to say yes and it is for me but some people have no morals of their own and need religion to act like a human[/c]

@sarabee1995 [c=#BF0000]😂 you will if you participate in the religious posts here. Some prominent users have made dat statement actually[/c]
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User I do (sometimes) and have never seen it. The next time you do, please tag me or send me a link. I am curious about this logic.

Not only a waste of time, but highly divisive & dangerous!
Peaceful · F
Religion is a stepping stone to outgrow. At the root of most of them, they are pure, but have been manipulated by the powers-that-be through guilt, shame and fear.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
Religion should be classed as a "adult" activity, like alcohol & tobacco etc, you have to be 18+ to participate.
Age of reason etc, stop the child indoctrination.
Just a thought!
Sharon · F
@Harriet03 Yes, there aren't many responsible religious groups. Some are just so desperate to boost their numbers they can't afford to let morals get in their way.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@Sharon Prayer in schools etc, guarantees a never ending supply. That's why they lobby so hard for it, knowing if it doesn't happen. In 2/3 generations it will be finished!
Sharon · F
@Harriet03 Yes, the law used to say "religion" (1944 Education Act) but in 1988 (?), thanks in part to the unelected church representatives in Parliament (the House of Lords), it was changed to give emphasis to christianity. :(

Yes. a lot of time and potential squandered by priests and clerics.

Religious Education in school was certainly a waste of time.
Peaches · F
No, 💓😇it's a learning experience.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
The humanity in me says anything that gives you comfort through life is probably worth pursuing.

But the cynic within me says wherever there's a follower some other human with a theology to sell is always never far behind.

For some religion brings meaning to thier lives and Spurs them on to be better people.
Some of it is beautiful.
Like most ideologies, some choose to hide behind it when acting out badly.
I figure that's on them.

I think it's all based on a "God of the Gaps" type of thing....the more things science can explain the less of a role "God" has.
Indy74 · 46-50, F
Yes, especially when the pastor always preaches fire and brimstone. That's my experience, and it gets old fast.
Portia · 41-45
Well, it depends on what you classify as spirituality and religion in this day and age. In my humble opinion, these are very much present in the 21st century but expressed through rather unorthodox means such as Instagram for instance...whereas traditionally people turned to a God and church nowadays people turn inward. Look at how people consider social media with the same religious fervour. The contemporary pilgrimage is in search for the self...I think.
Some people take comfort in it. But I’ve encountered far too many people who use it as justification for bigotry and cruelty to see it as positive.
Religion is an action. Religion tortures and murders the saints, and religion feeds the hungry and comforts the afflicted. \

[quote] Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Personally, yes I do.
TheGoodGuy · M
No. It shows the way to heaven. So many people who aren't following the right way are in turmoil.
User41 · 36-40, M
As someone who doesn’t believe in god, an afterlife or souls... no.
purplepen · 51-55, F
Only when practised in a fake or evil way.
