Do you ever wonder if you are a good enough christian [Spirituality & Religion]

I sometimes think about whether I am a failure as a christian because of my flaws. I know that I am wholly redeemed by Christ's dying for my sins. But am I actually a good influence towards others leading them towards wanting Christ in their lives.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
No, I don't wonder. If we were perfect, we wouldn't need Jesus.

We have a powerful and loving God. I look at some of the people mentioned in the Bible. They had their faults but they repented and continued to follow Jesus. They were called the children of God.
@SweetMae Very nice answer. 🙂
syfy86 · 46-50, M
Exactly @SweetMae! Peter denied Christ, David was an adulterer, Thomas doubted, Saul actually killed Christians. They're examples that we're not saved because we're perfect but because of the enormity of God's grace. God doesn't seek out the righteous but wants all of us.
SW-User
I think Jesus knows each of us and our sins. As long as we accept Christ as our savior, we will be cleansed and they will be washed away upon entering the Kingdom of God.
SW-User
I understand the sentiment but you can't think that way. First - your flaws are no longer the burden they once were. You're saved by Christ, your redemption is complete, and your sanctification is under way.
jfox4anr · 46-50, M
I think we are all flawed and that none of us will ever be good enough…thats why we needed a savior
I don’t until other people put doubts in my mind. Then I have to return to the Word and remember that there is only one who knows my heart and only one I must answer to.
Beckylove · 22-25, F
Just remember god will always love you no matter what you do. It’s always best to live life too the fullest.
SW-User
@Beckylove truer words have never been spoken. Regardless of the age speaking them.
cecile · F
i am doomed for the things i have done and do still
Adstar · 56-60, M
@cecile Not if you are forgiven them..
karysma · 31-35, F
@cecile It's never too late. Let the Holy Spirit help you. He's with you 24/7 for a reason. Use that to your advantage cause trust me when he's done with you you'll look in the mirror and love what you see. I know I'm loving who he's helping me become and it looks just like my Heavenly Father.
SW-User
@cecile But why would you finish that way... there's no need.
Redbeard · 56-60, M
Always remember that God's Grace Is Sufficient Because of His Completed Work at the cross.
Nikki921 · F
That’s a good question for everyone.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Nikki921 what Question ?
SW-User
Yes of course. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about it

Nope!
Do you?
SW-User
I know there is a need to reflect and pray and work on improving oneself. But seriously, you can't be "good enough" - that's the whole point of salvation, justification and eventual sanctification.
pdockal · 56-60, M
Nope and never did ... I don't believe in the structure any more (have numerous reasons)
I believe if I treat others better then I want to be treated them I'm following his way
SW-User
That's good. You're not, not a good enough christian, through your flaws. Though one needs to be leading a life that genuinely repents and seeks Christ, but you will still have flaws.
Disposal · 36-40, M
everyone has flaws, and not everyone can feel like they're good enough. All you can do is be the best you can do in your own way.
SW-User
I do wonder... but it's a rhetorical question, since by definition I am not. This is why I'm saved by Christ, cause I need it.
SW-User
You can have that question, but be careful falling into reliance on works.

I believe we’ve discussed a similar questions before
littlematthew123 · 22-25, M
I dont think I am I still get into trouble alot and dont like to do as im told but only cause other teens are allow to do alot more then I am
SW-User
Yes, often actually. I know salvation isn’t works oriented, but it still crosses my mind.
SW-User
You are human and not christ. You have your own failings and not perfect.

If that's true then what is the point of Judgment Day?
I'm not a Christian at all. Does that mean I'm going to hell?
Justme264 · 70-79, M
Yes... often... but we all have flaws. Are any of us perfect

We are all imperfect and fall short of the glory of God.

We are all sinners.

None of us deserve his love and mercy.

But God's love is so great, He forgives us anyway and gives us a place in heaven, just for believing and being faithful.

When you are consumed with guilt and that keeps you from God's plan for your life, the Devil wins!

You have to accept God's mercy and Jesus' sacrifice.

What Jesus did on the cross is enough to cover not only your sins, but the sins of the whole world!

Because he never sinned and is the perfect sacrifice, it is enough to cover the sins of the world.

Jesus paid the price for sins you haven't even done yet!

So don't worry about not being good enough. None of us are good enough.

Don't worry about not being worthy. None of us are worthy.

Don't worry about not being righteous. None of are righteous ... except that ...

Jesus died for our sins.

He was good enough and makes us good enough.

He was worthy, and makes us worthy.

He was righteous and makes us righteous.

His righteousness is bestowed upon you.

You didn't earn it, but you have it.

Praise God and thank Jesus for what you have.

What Jesus did is enough for everyone and that includes you.
StrictLoving · 56-60, M
@Reverend that's a dumb question. No, of course not. Have you not read all my other post prior to this?
Reverend · M
@StrictLoving I have not.
Reverend · M
@StrictLoving i was only asking not accusing you.
SW-User
I am a horrible christian. I believe in God and Jesus and I think they are cruel to send their creation to eternal torture because of rules made up by God that we have to follow and then give us free will after all that.
@karysma that's a stupid point because you can commit the same sins before hand but now god can forgive you because he killed his son to forgive us
karysma · 31-35, F
@Mistakesmakeus that is how powerful the blood of Jesus is. That same here blood will get us into heaven
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@SW-User you apparently didn't read the Bible well if at all

Those laws were given and in no way impossible to follow, the evil ones who choose to reject Jesus fully deserve what they get, not that I'm glad for it as some that I love do not believe or do not follow Jesus

He is fully righteous in sending wicked ones to burn, he is creator of the universe and those that do not obey him are like weeds in a garden
Doomflower · 36-40, M
Why would anyone with a vagina want to be a Christian?
Pfuzylogic · M
This reminds me of scripture which you are more than likely familiar with
2 Corinthians 12:9 which was written by Saint Paul but inspired by the Holy Spirit.
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
It reminds me that the test of perfection was given to Jesus and not to me. I simply accept grace through the Holy Spirit that guards me from the disbelief of the world.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
We are saved by Grace (God's Gift) not by works lest anyone boast. If I could be a good enough Christian then Jesus died for no reason.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 wise truths brother
Don't you just get a do over if you are a Christian, isn't that why Evangelicals forgave Trump even when he is accused of Child Rape, didn't they just forgive Roy Moore for stalking and molesting the girls he picked up at the mall when he was in his 30's. Don't you just say Hail Mary and you're good to go??
yes. i feel guilty sometimes cuz im so imperfect and dont really do much to show compassion and love and all that
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@Dewms let that feeling motivate you to care more and do more, none of us is perfect but if we don't try to be we won't be anything like our king
spjennifer · 56-60, T
I focus more on being a good human being, man is flawed and religion is flawed. I think if you lead a good, moral life and don't seek to do harm to others, you're doing ok. So much harm has been done in the name of Christianity and focusing on sin that it's always made me wonder. If the person who goes to church on Sunday to be absolved of his sins, then goes home and beats his wife and children is considered a "Good Christian" then that's not something I want to be...
Adstar · 56-60, M
@spjennifer I NEVER try to justify any bad thing i have done.. There is no point to try and justify bad deeds before the LORD when His atonement can cover all my sins in an instant.. So i adopt a Zero resistance policy towards the will of God and willingly say to Him that His will is perfect and anything i have done against His will is sin and every time i have failed to do His will is sin and thank Him for suffering death to pay the penalty for all my sins..

I am covered, absolved of all my sins, even those i do not remember.. I am in the ultimate safe space 😊 with the LORD..

So have faith ( which is trust ) in the teachings of God in the things you personally agree with and things that you don't quite understand. Acknowledging some out of agreement and acknowledging others out of Faith and all will be well for you..

Salvation is simple and His burden is light.. It's so easy to be saved if we put our pride in the back seat..
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Adstar As a child I grew up singing and truly believing in "Jesus loves the little children, ALL the children of the world" and I still firmly believe that to this day, it was not "all the children of the world, except for... and... because..." and that is what I struggle mightily with and why I walked away from the religions, doesn't mean I don't believe, I just believe differently than most.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@spjennifer Yes indeed the LORD Jesus loves all human beings.. Yep.. That's why he came and suffered death to pay for our sins.. to save us from the judgement that we where facing for our sins.. He cam to save Sinners..

There is only one sin that is unforgivable and that is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and if you want to know what that is it happened in the gospel when some evil scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and declared that Jesus was doing his miracles by demonic powers..

But all other sins WILL be forgiven through the Atonement of the LORD Jesus.. So if someone told you that your particular sin was unforgivable then they are guilty of preaching a false Gospel to you..

The Gospel is what the LORD declares it to be.. Not what pastor this or reverend that or evangelist so and so says.. I myself left a ""church /denomination"" after i read the Bible for myself, because i found out my former church was teaching things against the Word of God.. But i did not chuck the precious baby out with the bathwater and abandon my Faith in God..

Test your beliefs spjennifer against the template of Gods teachings.. Don't resist.. None of us can live without sinning.. But we can live in a state where we are constantly being forgiven our sins by God. We can constantly be in a state of salvation..
Nobody is good enough...that's the whole point!

...and the ones who think and say they are, are some of the nastiest and cruellest people on this planet towards others! Self righteousness is not the same thing as holiness!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Mandalorian That makes you good enough. He will do the rest.
@SimplyTracie

I'm not wrong in what I said...and neither are you..

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

Romans 3:23-24
