Why did god let the devil serpent into the garden? [Spirituality & Religion]

Deadcutie · 18-21, F
The earth is satan’s domain and god wanted to test them.. they failed
@Carazaa It was nice talking with you. Thanks for that and being nice to everyone:3

@canusernamebemyusername Thank you so much for the verses!
@Carazaa You are welcome:3 I hope you have a good day/night.

Why did God create Satan to begin with?
Why did God allow Satan into paradise?
Was the Garden a paradise if evil was already present?
If sin was possible would not it be inevitable?
If Adam and Eve were amoral how could they be held responsible for what amounts to a "set up?"
@CookieLuvsBunny

It definitely appears to have some holes.
@CookieLuvsBunny Something I heard a long time ago was why would a perfect God create at all. A perfect God has neither wants nor needs but simply exists in complete wholeness and perfection.

Correct. If God is perfect it has no needs or desires because it is complete in itself.
If you want to read a semi-coherent explanation for this conundrum look at The Gospel of Judas

Because God and the serpent are 2 sides of the same coin and He enjoys being a third wheel. So do his followers especially with their children's love life, and I mean adult children.

Christian love is a love triangle.
Matthew 10:34-38 New International Version (NIV)

34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
Restate the question: Why did the author make the devil serpent enter the garden?

It's a good literary device. People would get bored with a story where nothing happens. How many Bible stories have this?
Sharon · F
@AllChristiansAreHypocrites It was all a set up.
He wanted to see if Eve thought she was dealing with a "snake oil" salesman, or figured, if I came from Adam's rib, now it's my chance to get payback!! An apple a day...

Because its a fairy story written by someone with a vivid imagination many years ago theres no truth in it at all .Only the weak minded believe in it because they say ignorance is bliss.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
Maybe it represents the fact that there's always malevolance even when things seem perfect, and that is the nature of life.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Just for enjoyment of punishment lol, I have no other logical explanation.
@SatanBurger

It's definitely a hard circle to square when dealing with what is meant to be an omniscient being.

Freewill otherwise, only God would know.

@SW-User
If evil didn't exist there would be no qualitative difference to recognize
SW-User
@CookieLuvsBunny Well, if everything is good then nothing is good, and vice versa. Why do people choose to do evil?

That is a false platitude
JesusChrist · 100+, M
To get to the other side. But the joke doesn't stop there. Adam and Eve also ended up on the other side. And the joke doesn't even stop there either.

Too many mice eating the lettuce?!? 🤷‍♂️
@Spokeskitties75

Stupid mice
Straylight · 31-35, F
I think it was like a parable rejecting the old religions, which tended to be totemic and matriarchal.
@Straylight

How do you mean?
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Pikachu By making the serpent the evil tempter, it rejects shamanism and then rejects the matriarchal aspect by having Eve be tempted by the serpent of the old ways.
@Straylight

Ah i see
xixgun · M
We tell our kids all day long “don’t touch the stove”, but in the end, they do what they want
@xixgun

lol i suppose.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
To Test Eve
@JohnOinger

Why set a test when you already know the outcome?
And is the test fair? With no knowledge of good and evil, how would eve know anything was wrong?
