Isn't Islam a religion of death and conquest? [Spirituality & Religion]

The Quran apparently has verses that say to kill the Jew, Christian and unbelievers, that they are infidels.

Does this apply only to the radicals and people like Osam Bin Laden or is this what each muslim believes. Also, it does say that the only way Islam finds peace is when the whole world is under sharia law and accepts Islam as the only religion.

Are there different versions of the Quran or Islam? I know under Christianity there are different beliefs eg. Catholics, protestants, JW, etc. Is it the same with Islam?

Here are some of what I found online.

Now, let us have a closer look at what the Koran says about the infidels:-

Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them(2:191)
Make war on the infidels living in your neighboorhood (9:123)
When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)
Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay Jizya tax (9:29)
Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable (3:85)
The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)
Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticise Islam. (5:33)
The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque (9:28)
Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies
(22:19)
Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)
The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them (8:65)
Muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)
Terrorise and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an (8:12)
Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorise the infidels (8:60)
The Qur’an certainly proclaims that when the time is appropriate, Muslims must use force to convert the unbelievers to Islam. For the non-Muslims, the alternative to this is to pay the humiliating protection money (Jizya tax) or be killed (by beheading, of course). A militarily dominant Islam, without doubt, precludes the peaceful co-existence with the unbelievers if the Muslims have to abide strictly by the unalterable stipulations of the Qur’an.
This is why we see very few “moderate” muslims coming out and speaking against the violence. There is so much overwhelming evidence stacked against them not able to be “moderate” because of the fundamental belief’s of Islam.

There's a lot of evil in Islamic doctrine, but luckily for us, Islam isn't homogenous enough for this to be a death sentence in itself. Most people don't like violence, and will do all kinds of mental gymnastics to avoid the edicts of their own religions. There are already moderate Muslims, and there's plenty of hope that we may be able to grow that base to encompass the majority of Islam, as has been done to Christianity.

Fighting Islam is futile; there are far too many of them, and they are very attached to their faith. We need to help reform Islam.
Steverick · 61-69, M
@BlueVeins
They do need to reform but as in Christianity there are numerous sects and off shoots plus, as you mentioned there are about 1.3 billion of them, in troubled countries many with little or no eduction. They need to reform themselves, no one can force it upon them.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Steverick Yeah, but we can help them along, starting with some good old-fashioned selective cultural acceptence.
the church went thru a clean up phase.. hence the 'new' testiment.

i think Islam needs the same..

but since alah and Muhammads word is law.. fat chance of that happening anytime soon..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout best answer right there....Muslims have been deceived by the spirit of Satan as the angel of light.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
I can't tell for each Muslim but after a lot of in depth conversations a Muslim friend of mine revealed that he doesn't believe that Muslims should kill others but he said that that is what will happen to restore the Islamic Rule in the world as was at the time of Adam.

You see some Muslims who protest against the terrorists too but I don't know if they're actually few or portrayed so by media.

Also most Muslims I've talked to never talk about Islamic terrorists but say "the US government is the biggest terrorist". I won't deny that but whatever. I don't want to be the judge lol.
Steverick · 61-69, M
I would tend to agree. To have this not happen Islam must go thru some type of Reformation as did Christianity. I don't see that happening anytime soon. Moderate Muslims are afraid to speak against the Jihad killings/violence fearful of their own person safety, and rightly so. I think Muslims think the US is the bigger terrorist because of support for Israel as well as say Iran's "Death to America, the Great Satan" rhetoric plus our successful wars in Iraq. Muslims/Islam have a LONG memory and still call us, The West, the Crusaders for crying out loud - and they for the most part won that struggle. Perhaps if the large young population in Iran can overthrow the authoritarian mullahs that run their county and institute some form of Republic that formentioned softening of Islam can begin?
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
Yes, they will fight till all the world is muslim or enslaved.

As far as the Bible and Christianity, the old testament is the 1st covenant and old mosaic law, the new testament is the new covenant with Jesus. No more stonings for adultery or chopping off a hand for being a thief.

Islam was about conquering, rape and pillage from the onset.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Steverick Everything has its time. Every religion, sooner or later, will be subsumed by mankind's baser instincts. Time has nothing to do with this stuff - attitude remain little changed.
Steverick · 61-69, M
I disagree. God is eternal, outside our time and space, and omniscient. He made everything. It didn’t happen by. accident. When He said let there be light the Big Bang occurred and so on.
I agree time has little to do with Islam being a violent religion of death conquest and subjugation. Not true with ANY of the other major religions. @Graylight]
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@Graylight Some men will follow base instincts, some will choose a different higher course. Evil has reared it's head for 2 world wars and nations with a will to take that higher path have won the day. History will repeat itself and we will find ourselves in a world full of turmoil again some day. As long as there are more good men than bad, we will keep going.

1.8 billion muslims in the world, if what you're saying is right then you won't be typing this shit and if you really believe that all muslims want to murder yo ass then you sir are the fucking terrorist
Steverick · 61-69, M
@SW-User
I'm simply stating what their "holy" book says, you sir are don't know me from Adam and are implying nonsense.
SW-User
I already can see you've made up your mind and probably don't want to consider anything other than what you believe. To answer the question, no
Steverick · 61-69, M
@SW-User
Hmmm, simply stated what their "Holy" book says.
There is absolutely no parallel to anything like this in the New Testament for example.
I would submit that their Koran should be rewritten eliminating such evil if they don't believe it anymore
SW-User
@Steverick I strongly disagree ._.
You can't even quote the book correctly. You didn't even fact check yourself, too. I only went to the FIRST quote you predented and you straight up BUTCHERED it 😂
Miserably, sir

CLEAR CUT EXAMPLE:
In the sentence: "Do not punch John unless he punches you"

Your quote would be equivalent to:
"Punch John"
Because the words punch and John appear together

https://quran.com/2/191

You took a statement that teaches SELF DEFENSE and completely cut out the whole CIRCUMSTANCE of DEFENDING YOURSELF. Those are the most FAMOUS statements in that book because Islam teaches to defend oneself and go to war to protect your country. I thought you stood for that as an American (or human being. Standing one's ground) 😂😂😂

https://quran.com/2/190

Even in the one RIGHT before it, it says to fight whoever fights you and not be a pushover but STILL says you cannot transgress on the rights of even those you are defeating in a fight.

This is why I told you that you made up your mind and don't feel like changing it. If you cannot grow from youe mistakes or understanding, I can't have a meaningful discussion with you

I believe the leader of turkey answered that question recently when he declared that there is no such thing as a moderate muslim.
Steverick · 61-69, M
Also, since Muslims can "LIE" for their faith, how could anyone ever believe that what they are saying is, all pun intended, the gospel truth?
katielass · F
@Steverick Exactly. We have people so dumb they think because muslims here aren't terrorizing us on a daily basis that they are peaceful but they are doing what the quran tells them, bide your time. They are merely waiting to become the majority, or a large enough percentage of the population that they can implement sharia law. Won't the libs love that. lol
SW-User
Somewhat, but there's more good stuff than bad. If you simply sum up the bad in Christianity, it's a horror story as well
Graylight · 51-55, F
No more than the Christian Bible is.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Steverick the Christian Bible is composed of both the Old and New Testament. But just to be safe...

GospelsEdit

In the Gospel of Matthew, Herod the Great is described as ordering the execution of all young male children in the vicinity of Bethlehem.

There are sayings of Jesus where he states that he comes to bring fire or a sword. The cleansing of the Temple is a direct violent action by Jesus. There are also sayings of Jesus that oppose violence, such as Turning the other cheek and the passage about Jesus and the woman taken in adultery.

The earliest detailed accounts of the death of Jesus are contained in the four canonicalgospels. There are other, more implicit references in the New Testament epistles. In the synoptic gospels, Jesus predicts his deathin three separate episodes. All four Gospels conclude with an extended narrative of Jesus' arrest, initial trial at the Sandhedrinand final trial at Pilate's court, where Jesus is flogged, condemned to death, forced to carry his cross through Jerusalem, and then crucified, buried, with accounts of resurrectionfollowing. His death is described as a sacrifice in the Gospels and other books of the New Testament. In each Gospel these five events in the life of Jesus are treated with more intense detail than any other portion of that Gospel's narrative. Scholars note that the reader receives an almost hour-by-hour account of what is happening.

The Book of Revelation is full of imagery of war, genocide, and destruction. It describes the Apocalypse, the last judgment of all the nations and people by God, which includes plagues, war, and economic collapse. Some other books of the Gospels also use apocalyptic language and forms. Scholars define this as language that "views the future as a time when divine saving and judging activity will deliver God's people out of the present evil order into a new order...This transformation will be cataclysmic and cosmic."

Whenever Jesus calls people to a new vision in light of God's impending kingdom, judgment, or a future resurrection, he is using apocalyptic speech. For example, Jesus uses apocalyptic speech in Matthew 10:15 when he says "it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town," and in Mark 14:62, where he alludes to the book of Daniel with himself in the future "sitting at the right hand of God." Bailey and Vander Broek go on to say, "In the material about John the Baptizer there also appear apocalyptic images: 'the wrath to come' (Luke 3:7); 'the axe ... lying at the root of the tree' (Luke 3:9); the Coming One with 'winnowing fork ... in His hand' (Luke 3:17); and chaff burning with 'unquenchable fire' (Luke 3:17)."

Charles B. Strozier, psychoanalyst historian says: "The most troubling dimension of 'endism' is its relation to violence. ... fundamentalists generally believe... transformation can only be accomplished violently, and that the move from our time into the next requires mass death and destruction when '...this earth will be purged in the fires of God's anger, that Jesus will return, and that a new heaven and a new earth will be reborn'". The Book of Revelation has been used to justify violence and has served as an inspiration of revolutionary movements.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Herod the Great is described as ordering the execution of all young male children in the vicinity of Bethlehem.........................
The Old Testament as it relates to the New Testament is about Jewish Law, History and prophecy that verifies Jesus being the Christ.

This is history, not religious doctrine, exhorting believers to violence.

And? This is also History.....They put the Messiah, the Christ to death, just a He said they would so that He could rise on the 3rd day.

This is New Testament Prophecy

And???? this relates the the Koran, telling it's believers to kill non-believers, in what way? Again, what's your point?

And???
Seems to me you went to Wikipedia for a data dump which says nothing specific, nothing that I don't already know and says nothing about Christianity exhorting, written in it's holy book, the Bible, that came directly from the mouth of Jesus of Nazareth, to kill non-believers.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Steverick The Holy Bible, New and Old testaments because that's the accepted canon, includes tremendous amounts of violence and calls to violence. Every holy book contains instances of God's love as well as his wrath, man's violence and his peace. You can't pick apart and exceptionalize one and denounce the other as a whole. It doesn't work like that.

@Steverick did you learned Arabic and read the whole book form the begging the end?
Steverick · 61-69, M
@ItsGonnaBeOk
Nope, and I've not learned Aramaic, Greek or Hebrew but I've read most of the Bible.
(I did study Latin for two years reading Ceasar's Gaulic War Commentaries in his own words)

I have recently read (last 2 years):
1. The Sword of the Prophet by Serge Trikfovic
2. Jesus vs. Jihad by Marvin Yakos
3. Islam and Terrorism by Mark A Gabriel
4. The Complete Infidels's Guide to the Koran by Robert Spencer.
These are not all the books on the Koran/Islam that I've read getting VERY interested in it ever since 9-11.

The Talumd contains things of a similar nature. So Islam is not alone.

Do Jews nor or anytime in the recent past have any Rabbis exhort or believers that have conducted mass murder against non Jews?

@Steverick Why only the recent past? and what constitutes mass murder in your opinion?
