If you ask a preacher a question about something he just preached, and he says 'I was just preaching the word.'... [Spirituality & Religion]

Does that mean everything he said was supposed to be straight from God, and therefore unabe to be enquired about? Or is it just really bad manners to ask questions about something that was preached?
I really don’t get that. He should definitely have an answer for every question. We’re supposed to ask questions, if we’re puzzled on something preached.

I'd say it usually means he doesn't know how to explain it any better
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
@purplepen maybe, but sometimes the preacher is just reading a script and doesn't understand it any better than you

OK

@purplepen Jesus said the true gospel should be taught so even a child could understand it.

He should absolutely know what he is preaching about and be able to explain it for the hearers. He's to be an under-shepherd for the Great Shepherd. So he is to feed and tend to the flock....was there something that you didn't understand that needs clarity?
That’s a weird preacher. They are to teach Zgod’s Word and know what it means, especially. @purplepen

Some things I find that evangelical preachers are very good at preaching about, like the very basic gospel stuff. It's mostly when they add their own stuff and deliver it as gospel truth, or when they say things out of context that it gets confusing.

@purplepen Right, the last thing we want to do, preacher or lay person, is to get in the way of the word. If you are interested, take a listen to the Let's Talk About Jesus radio ministry at Loving Grace. org. I seriously couldn't send you to a safer and more Christ centered ministry that always leads with the New Covenant in Christ. The teacher is 42 years in the ministry and just about Jesus, as it should be.

He was using an easy answer but preachers can and do preach inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Do you remember your question?

@purplepen
I am sorry that you have had such a difficult time in your church? You must be looking for God’s guidance in prayer.
purplepen · 51-55, F
@Pfuzylogic Yes, I am. I'm also trying to process the stuff that's happened.

@purplepen
You have my sympathy.
The church can act like the rest of the world at time because it is people with their own drives at work sometimes.
I’m sure you know this all on your own.

I think maybe he couldn’t explain it further but it’s never wrong to ask questions.
Carazaa · F
You should be able to ask questions! What the heck?
Steve42 · 56-60, M
I think one has to be careful in interpolating things preachers say. They are human and therefore subject to the temptations all humans are and full of errors as all humans are.
purplepen · 51-55, F
@Steve42 True. Thus I would tend to ask rather than assuming.
I would interpret that as him not knowing the answer. If he claims to be preaching “the word” he’s set himself up as knowledgeable and should be able to answer questions about the “message”. It’s not rude to ask-presumably he’s there to offer guidance, not just talk.
ou can tell if its just from the book or from the heart
