Last thread kind of got derailed lol. To my theist peeps: Is it reasonable when the answer is unknown to conclude that god is the answer? [Spirituality & Religion]

Many creationists will say "I can't see how life could have evolved, therefor i am justified in believing god did it". Is that a justified rational?
Many will recognize this as a logical fallacy known as an argument from incredulity: If i don't know how x could be then i am justified in believing y.

Do you think this kind of thinking is a reliable way of knowing what is true?

Azrael ·
Half the theists are too indoctrinated to believe anything but what has been taught to them. So many might have even experienced cognitive dissonance but chose to go back to what they are comfortable with. It's kind of frustrating.
@Azrael

Yeah it can be awfully hard to break out of the patterns of thinking you grew up with.
I think i encountered just such a person in the last thread. When faced with the realization that maybe this is not a reasonable path to truth, he started quoting scripture to me.

No more so, than I can't see God, therfore must be it doesn't exist.
Azrael ·
@UserNameSW belief has nothing to do with it, something either exists or it doesn't. The universe doesn't care about your beliefs or feelings.
@UserNameSW

Are you justified in believe something exists solely on the basis that it can't be proven not to?
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Pikachu people belive many things for many reasons. Not my place to tell people what to belive, how to belive, or why to belive.

Facts are important. Science and human knowledge are constantly improving.
As more is proven and confirmed people change their knowledge base.
These always get derailed. Lol

@Pikachu The strength of an Atheist's argument is inversely proportional to the length of time it takes the opposing theists to attempt to derail the debate or resort to ad hominem attacks.
@suzie1960

lol good rule of thumb

I don’t know that faith is really about truth. It sort of creates its own truth and like everything else human, the result runs the gamut from beautiful to horrific. Someone who finds their truth elsewhere will never dent that faith. We all walk different paths so I think justification is a fruitless objective.

That question has already been answered. Why do you need to have answered again? Do you want to become a disciple of Jesus?
@GodSpeed63

No it has not been answered. At least not by you.

If you recall, the best response you managed was "God gives the answer in His time and in His way."

This does not in any way answer the question of this thread nor the last.
I have not asked "how does god give us answers" which is the question you appear to have answered.

If you feel that this does sufficiently answer the question then please elaborate on how.
Last time you i asked you to clarify this, you just stopped replying which sort of feels like it tells us all we need to know there.
Nevertheless, i'd like to give you the opportunity to make your case.

@Pikachu
No it has not been answered. At least not by you.
Throwing another tantrum are you? Listen dude, you want respect, then respect and quit acting worse than jackass. You attract more bees with honey than you do with vinegar, remember that. As you say, strike three, you're out.
@GodSpeed63

Hmmm. Disagreeing that you have supplied a pertinent answer is an awfully low bar for "tantrum", wouldn't you say? Sort of seems more like a deflection from having to respond meaningfully to what i said.

Is it disrespectful to explain to you why your answer was not in fact germane to the question? Was it disrespectful to offer you the opportunity to clarify why you felt that your answer was appropriate? Again, you seem to be setting a very low bar.
And look, i know the strike system upsets you, but there are rules to it.
You've got to start with strike one. You'll agree that i always offer you that courtesy😉

Buuuut it seems pretty plain that you're unable to hold up your side of the debate here. Or, if i'm being charitable, just unwilling.

Either way, please don't feel compelled to reply unless you're prepared to at least attempt to engage with me in an intellectually honest manner.

@Kenscoff

I don't doubt it. But that's not really the subject of this thread😉

Well then don't keep hitting your thumb with a hammer.
Go find something that you have more patience for😉

Your previous question had the word "train" in it. Is that the one that kind of got derailed?
@NankerPhelge

lol i guess so
