Why doesn't god want me to believe in him? [Spirituality & Religion]

There was a time in my life when i earnestly, desperately asked god to reveal himself to me.
If god is real then he would know how to make me believe. But evidently he hasn't done that.
So either he doesn't exist or he doesn't want me to believe, right?

Can I interject why that is without getting slammed by others?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Pikachu And, perhaps, only if the martyr is a Christian?

@Pikachu I simply added a comment to another person's post as supporting evidence. You don't agree with my comment. I'm fine with that. Would you like me to remove my comment? 🙂
@ms20182878

Sorry, instead of me searching for it, could you just copy/paste your response to my question here?

Thanks🙂

He has revealed Himself to everyone, as stated in Romans 1:18-20 "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

@kodiac That's the problem with the Catholic church... They promote the idea that the pope and cardinals and priests are somehow some special sort of "God's representatives"... and that sets them up to abuse their positions if they aren't careful. And then when people like you suffer that abuse, you're not able to see that the God of the Bible is NOT the god that you have experienced through them. You shouldn't believe in the people who have damaged your life... they are only people, doing evil things. Just be open to the thought that there IS a TRUE God who loves you and wants to heal and restore your life... and you just haven't met Him yet. I'm so sorry for all of your situation and your pain.

@ms20182878 Thanks again for talking with me ,no one really ever has .I think the perception of god many are taught needs to change .I have been told flat out that what happened was a test of my faith and i failed . So many people tell me god won't give me more than i can handle or what doesn't kill me makes me stronger ,i don't agree .To be betrayed at such a young age ,I can't see it through adult eyes and the child doesn't understand.
ms20182878 · 61-69, M
@kodiac Hey... I'm always here if you want to talk more... just PM me. I'm sure that well-meaning folks have told you all sorts of things that ended up only making it more difficult and confusing for you. Just remember our conversations... and keep in touch. OK?
Seeking to get closer to god drove me to atheism.

You should look into something called The Thomas Theorem. It’s a sociological theory on human behavior about how stubborn people will believe something even if it is not backed up by facts. It also asserts that if people believe something to be real. That essentially makes the belief real. If it effects your daily life and your thought process then regardless of logical scientific, or factual errors, your belief is real because of how it effects you and your life in some context.
@QueenOfZaun
I will look into that, thanks

Nice, she posted a lie about me and when called out, blocked me. I doubt her sincerity to the cause of educating heathen non-believers.

🙄
kodiac · 22-25, M
Maybe because if you did believe there would be no one for the church to save.Imagine that everyone believes without question .There would be no need for religion or churches or pedophile priests or any of that. The largest business on earth shut down.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
As He said "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy"? It is Yahweh's sovereign choice not man's wishes.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu What claws? I am laughing at a clown that is so insecure in his belief that he has to bring it up day after day after day after day after........
@hippyjoe1955

There they are again.
I just put a question to you, joe. Didn't realize it would elicit such a violently defensive response.

You're clearly in no mood to talk. Hit me up later, ok?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu So you can't see your own hypocrisy. Colour me surprised.
Vetrov · 61-69, M
Being God is about as limited an existence there is.

The way l see it

God can only ever do one of five things.

God can decide not to create the universe

God can decide to create the universe and fail

God can decide to create the universe and succeed

God can be satisfied with the universe

God can be dissatisfied with the universe and have it replaced

There's no requirement to believe in God, bruh. I don't, never have, and I'm doing just fine.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
Same here. Made me a little crazy.
@Doomflower

I found it crated a real sense of being on the outside.
This is what i'm told everyone else is doing in order to feel god's presence, so why isn't it working?
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@Pikachu idk.

I do think that none of the gods I've ever heard about, except perhaps the deistic version of god which I can't test for, exist. I know they don't exist for the same reasons I know there isn't really a Santa and to the same degree of certainty.
@Doomflower
i think the santa analogy is very apt.
bookerdana · M
It might be that He has another way ,another time for your epiphany;alas He sometimes won't appear like a genie of the lamp. It would be more satisfying if things worked like that..
@bookerdana

Sure, maybe one day he'll decide it's finally time to reveal himself to me.
Seems to me that it would be better to do that as soon as possible and at a time when i was seeking him, but what do i know lol

Even those with direct contact aren't always so thrilled;St. Teresa of Ávila was knocked off her donkey and fell into the mud, injuring her leg. “Lord,” she said, “you couldn’t have picked a worse time for this to happen. Why would you let this happen?”

And the response in prayer that she heard was, “That is how I treat my friends.”

Teresa answered, “And that is why you have so few of them!” @Pikachu
