Never found myself particularly hopeless.
But i agree, religion and belief in your god is nothing more than a security blanket. You fear pain, death and separation and so you cling to the notion that you will not have to deal with these things.
And yet atheists like myself abandon this comforting pablum because the evidence simply does not support the weight of the supernatural claims.
So i guess my response to this this post is : So what?

Atheism does also take away the terrible fear of rotting in hell in all eternity.

I don't mind people believing in god or Shiva or bloody Santa Claus as long as they don't try to force their beliefs upon me.

Hope of what? Of everlasting paradise? I suppose so. To me though, it makes life even more important, and makes me hope and work to help others. I'm not counting on any divine balance to level it all out. Though I'm not an atheist per se.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout wtf? whats wrong with families?
whats wrong with pride?
how is ANY of that relevant?
must one position, thus require adherence to the others?
that word, Nationalism, does not just mean mean Pride in one's country, it mean instead a feeling of superiority over other countries.
patriotism, might be a better word?
