When religious zealots are confronted with ugly truths about their religion, why do they immediately demand you must respect them? [Spirituality & Religion]

Because you must show respect before you get it....that includes both parties. What gives you the right to judge people of faith, calling them “religious zealots”? What are they hurting you? If you don’t like it, don’t interact with them. You don’t like people of faith, yet go out of your way to go to their posts to claim they are spreading ugly truths. If you don’t believe what they post, why bother? It must bother you, or you wouldn’t bother. Everyone on this site has a right to post as they please without criticism or degradation...no matter what the content. If you don’t like spiritual content, then don’t go to the spiritual section. Simple as that. Just because you think they are ugly truths, doesn’t mean they are. That just happens to be your perspective of it. Live and let live. We don’t go out of our way to harm or criticize you.

I find it unhumorous that, after I pointed out that Christian leaders are exhorting their flocks to kill me and people like me and that I will not "live and let live" that you are commanding I do just that. I wonder, were the shoe on the other foot and ACTUAL persecution of Christians was happening here, would you stick with the "live and let live"? I doubt it.

For they are zealous.
It threatens the stability of their reality for it to be challenged.
Perhaps those who challenge outside of what we call critical thinking are also challenging because of the threat they feel to the security of their chosen reality.

well there’s a variety of levels of respect - NO, you don’t have to look up to them, or admire them or respect them on that higher level. but every human being deserves enough respect not to be persecuted for what they believe —or don’t believe for that matter.@daisymay Live and let live. that’s very basic level respect
