I didn't know I needed a leader to NOT believe in God.

Dawkins is a colossal asshole.
Atheism may be broadly defined as a kind of movement but I certainly respect no 'leader' of atheists and never considered Hawkings one.

For those who have been subjected to a hierarchy of supposed authority, and required to follow a predetermined doctrine, it's perhaps difficult to understand that atheists tend to be free thinkers, independent of any sort of doctrine, and that the idea of leading atheists just doesn't make sense.
It would be like trying to herd cats!
By the way, what on Earth is 'Modern Atheism'? Is there an 'Old-Fashioned Atheism'?
Are they different ways of not having gods?

@Emosaur Atheists have been debunking theistic claims since forever... any number of the Ancient Greek writers did so... but at least these days, in some countries, we're no longer killed for doing so.

you don't need a leader to not believe something. just common sense, reason and logic.

i share a profession with hawking. plenty of believers and non-believers in the field of physics.
the only real "leader" of atheism i know of is dead. christopher hitchens. who was always well worth the listen regardless of one's beliefs.
