Are you morally superior to the god of the bible? [Spirituality & Religion]

Have you ever sanctioned slavery?
Committed or ordered genocide?
Let people you love suffer for not loving you back?

Shit, i think i'm morally superior to jehova god....

He´s the biggest mass murderer ,ever.

Btw, Who did the devil kill in the bible ?
@LeopoldBloom Ok, still a lot , lot less than the amount of people the biblical god killed or ordered to kill to please him.
@Underconstruction Yes, the God character is much worse. This is why the Gnostic Christians believed that the God of the Bible was an evil demiurge named Yaldabaoth, who was the son of Wisdom, which had itself been created by the true God. So their goal was to get past the evil God of the Bible and know the one true God above him. This sect was suppressed when the much simpler Christianity of Paul took hold.
@LeopoldBloom Yikes, yes, I wonder how people still worship such a monstruos "god". Unbelievable.
Thanks for the info, btw

@Pikachu Because God is the only person that really understands what death means for someone. He created both the world of the living and the world of the dead. If he wants at any point to transfer any of his creations from one world to the next, that’s up to him. As we are probably all sinners, that’s a just action for him to take.
@SW-User Post-mortem salvation is not a universally-accepted Christian concept. In Protestant denominations, purgatory doesn't exist - you die and either go to heaven or hell.

According to Rob Bell (author of "Love Wins"), God's love is so great that even souls in hell can be saved.
@SW-User

Well if you can find more than a vague memory of something paul maybe said...
As far as i know, by the time you're dead it's too late.
SW-User
@LeopoldBloom That’s a possibility as well.
Sarabee · 41-45
Why did he sanction slavery- to make his loved ones the Jews wake up
Why did he command genocide- Arab terrorist kill them all
Why does he have to shake so much -why can't yu just obey
Love God serve him and yu will feel peace no doubt
SW-User
@Sarabee I can already sense the storm of angry replies. Prepare for the worst.
@Sarabee

Tyrants all have reasons for the atrocities they commit.
That doesn't meant they're not atrocities
This post reminds me of someone who has never seen, or heard of, the internal combustion engine trying to operate a chain saw. 🤣
@puck61

Well, you've sure put me in my place. Excellent work.

So did you have any thoughts on the subject of the thread or was that pretty much what you were here for?
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
Here is the thing you can’t perceive in your ignorance and self absorption that makes him have superior absolute moral authority.

God can and will bring all these people back to life, even you, in a future of his choosing, free from the influence of Satan, where they can be taught how to live in peace, free from the trappings of this corrupted world.. this is not heaven btw...

You can’t..............

So he let millions of people who rejected and cursed his name die.
So he let a 12 year old girl get raped and murdered who didn’t follow his ways, or maybe it was her parents.. these people are not innocent.. our sins hold a death penalty, and for some it’s tragic and swift for others long and painful... they are learning examples for those who do want to follow god, how to do it correctly and receive his blessings and protection that he promises to give to those who obey his word and teachings...
In the end, they all get restarts anyways.. to him it’s like putting dolls away to play with them at a later date
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
@suzie1960 I’m stating my personal opinion, I’m not here to argue it aginst yours or make claims you can’t accept ... I don’t care if you think it’s ridiculous or asinine.. it’s what I believe and you can go fuck yourself if you have a problem with it..
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Deadcutie Thank you for proving my point for me so eloquently.
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
@suzie1960 whatevs
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
That God has issues.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
The definition of God is based; I believe, on the environment of the society at the time. In today's society in the big churches it's all about the "prosperity gospel" so it's about greed.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
Man can not begin to know the complexity of God
@Jake966

So god sets down a moral code. A set of tools by which we judge right from wrong....and then he proceeds to act in direct contradiction of those rules and we give him a pass because...?
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Pikachu I don’t recognize anything you say that God has done is wicked . God is the Ruler of the Universe , anything He does is not for me to question . You are simply looking for an arguement and to put words in my mouth or assume I mean something I didn’t say . I have spoken what the Bible has told me and that is what it is , like it or not . God IS the Creator of ALL thing and by Him they were created and when He judges I am not in any position to question . End of discussion .
@Jake966
anything He does is not for me to question
Exactly. You're content to stop thinking at "God owns us so he can do whatever he wants."
I haven't asked you to tell me what is written in the bible.
I've asked you to use the brain god gave you to explain rationally why genocide and torture can be considered morally correct depending on who is doing the killing and the torturing.

You appear either unable or unwilling to explain your thought process in that area.
I'm not trying to argue with you, i'm trying to have a discussion with you.
If you're not interested then i agree that we've reached a conclusion.
Have a nice night.
SomeHand · 31-35, M
Most textual critics and bible scholars will tell you that the bible has been changed. The God of the bible versus the concept of God derived from the current bible are two different things.
SW-User
@SomeHand religion as no place in the modern world, it's had its time. It's time to grow up and live in reality.
SomeHand · 31-35, M
@SW-User Relax. Even the days of the week are a religious phenomena lol. We need 7 days a week. Anyways don’t worry too much about this discussion. Sunday is fun day.
okaybut · 56-60, M
@SW-User I agree...the Old Testament God is not very nice at all.
SW-User
Lol, yes I'm morally superior, without a shadow of a doubt! It's okay to eat pork and shellfish, don't worry! 😉
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
i know for a fact Arceus hasn't. lets all pray to out Pokegod 😇
SW-User
I suppose if you are God, everything you do is moral, even if it is inconsistent.
@SW-User
the morality is not consistent
Well i guess i can agree to that
SW-User
@SW-User morals exist outside of religious ideoligies and gods, in social creatures like humans they are derived from social wellbeing to promote success in the species.
@SW-User The Euthyphro Dilemma presents the logical impossibility of a moral deity. It asks if the gods love what is good because it is objectively good, or if what the gods love is good just because the gods love it. Both answers have their own problems.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Your bigotry is showing again. Why does that not surprise anyone. Stupid people like you are often bigots.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu It is quite obvious you are a bigot by your posts. Small minded twit. Learn to think then we can have a discussion.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 You're just calling 'em an idiot yet you don't try to even counter any of the points they've made. It makes it seem as if you have nothing to debate with, other than your disdain for her argument. 🤔
@hippyjoe1955

Ok, I know you can't point to any specific reasoning why i might be considered a bigot but i'll work on it.
I'll keep you posted 😁
Run along...

I know, nothing to do with your thread. The Japanese are a bit fucked...lol
@okaybut

That's the japanese for you lol
SW-User
no no and no again
@SW-User

Why not? Do you think it's right to murder everyone if they displease you?
okaybut · 56-60, M
I like to think that everyone and every deity has its failings. Other than the universe which has no personification, so it is immune from judgment.
SW-User
I am certainly not superior in terms of morality. Or really in terms of anything.
@SW-User

I think i am. Why don't you. Do you believe those things are moral and right?
