because god loved Abel more than Cain .Cain was a peace loving guy who lived in a world ruled by a blood thirsty god. so when Cain offered plants to god, god did not like it. but god loved Abel who offered blood sacrifices to him. so Cain got fed up that his respect for animals wasnt appreciated. this same god later asked Abraham to sacrifice his son to him ( just to test his love) then later let the devil torture Job, just to test his fate and then much later was appeased by the sacrifice of his own son which people still worship by a mock cannibal ritual of symbolically drinking his blood and eating his body.
